Why Beau Desert – Well, from an existing member’s perspective the answer to this
would be very simple – Beau Desert is one of the finest courses in the Midlands
providing a range of facilities you will find hard to match, so why consider anywhere else.
Our management team also recognise that people select the golf club they want to
become a member of based on the quality of the playing conditions and here at Beau
Desert we have a course which is consistently presented to Championship standards by
our head green keeper, Steve Mucklow and his team.
Designed by Herbert Fowler, Beau Desert is a Championship heathland course
which as a venue is highly regarded and regularly used by both National and County
Associations.
In addition, we also never lose sight of the fact that we are a Members Club which,
whilst fortunate to currently enjoy a very healthy membership, never forgets the fact that
our members come first – all of the time!

Location, Location, Location…. – Set within the majestic Cannock Chase, the course,
which is owned by the members, sits on land belonging once to the 6 th Marquess of
Anglesey. The Marquess commenced building the course in 1911 and named the course
Beau Desert – the beautiful wilderness after his nearby home.
Situated within a triangle comprising
Stafford to the North, Cannock to the
South West and Lichfield to the South
East, the Club is well positioned
providing easy access from many
parts of the midlands.
The real beauty of Beau Desert is hard
to capture in words and is perhaps
best summed up on the adjacent page

My performance in the Beau Desert Stag – a 36‐hole amateur event, still held at the course –
had been a disappointment not just because it was the last straw (during a year when I’d
thrown everything into golf and seen my game deteriorate as a result), but because I’d
fantasised about the tournament like no other. The course had everything I loved: tight,
sandy fairways, pine trees, gorse, heather, and fast, big, undulating greens.
So now, when I pull into the car park, my head spins. I become a sweaty teenager again,
with factory‐second polo shirts and a hairstyle that looks like it’s been poured out of a Mr.
Whippy machine. A sign warns me not to change my shoes in the car park. Normally, I’d
ignore it, but I feel strangely obedient here.
I have more or less the same physique now as I had at 17, but I expected Beau Desert to
seem smaller than I remembered. It is, however, just as majestic: its epic feel belies its
comparatively short 6,500‐yard length. The grassy, heathery chasm in front of the first tee
still induces the same terror as it did in my youth, and the course’s own Amen Corner – a
selection of par threes and short par fours around the halfway point, located deep in the
forest – is as devilish and picturesque as I remember it.
As host to numerous Open Regional Qualifying events, County Championships and events
like the Carris Trophy, Beau provides a stern, yet fair examination of everyone's game. It is a
course to test yourself against: and one where you can still be assured of a warm welcome
from everyone at the Club.

Membership – Beau Desert offers a range of memberships for both men and ladies, the
fees for which are shown below. In addition, we have a very active junior section.

Rates range from £18.00 to £815.00 depending on age
In addition to the Annual Subscriptions which run from the start of January through to the
end of December, the Club also requires a Joining Fee of £1,500.00 and a small annual Bar
Levy of £75.00.
Various payment options are available and our General Manager, Steve Mainwaring will
be more than happy to discuss these with you.
Finally, as the information pack is put together, we have an excellent offer for a new
lady member which provides a £500.00 discount against subscriptions for the
first 3 years. Detail of this offer can be viewed through the Clubs website or discussed
with our General Manager.

Facilities – In addition to our 18 Hole Championship Course, we have an excellent
two storey Clubhouse overlooking the 18 th green, which offers an extensive range of
services.
Open from 9.00am weekdays and 7.30am at
weekends, our Chef, Richard Handley and Bar
Manager, Kelly Riley take great delight in looking
after the needs of our members. The Clubhouse
provides a welcoming oasis of relaxation after your
game where you can enjoy a bite to eat or a drink
from our well stocked bar.
The Club has a busy social programme which runs
throughout the year with a regular ‘Club Night’ on
Wednesday’s incorporating a free members draw where you have to be there to win
it.
Practice facilities include a covered 10 bay driving range, an internal driving area
adjacent to the 2 nd and 17 th fairways where members can practice, two putting greens, a
chipping and practice bunker area, as well as warm up ‘driving nets’.

The Joining Process – Applications for membership should be made by completing an
‘application for membership’ form and submitting it to the Club’s General Manager.
Forms, which are available through the Club’s website may also be requested from our
office by calling 01543 42262 ext. 6 or by emailing a request to office@bdgc.co.uk.
Following receipt of the completed form, which needs a ‘Proposer’ and ‘Seconder’, you
will be invited to the Club for an interview. The interview process is a great way of
finding out a little bit more about each other and gives you the opportunity to ask
any questions you may have. An offer of membership is then usually made within 4
weeks.
If you are unable to provide a ‘Proposer’ or ‘Seconder’ then a letter of introduction from a
former Club or your business will usually suffice. If you believe this may be a problem then
please discuss the matter with our General Manager as we usually find there is a way
around things.
