<strong>School</strong> Policies (Continued)ALCOHOL/DRUG POLICYThe use of drugs is strictly prohibited. To assist with drug violations and education the“Dogs FOR Drugs” division of the Medicine Hat Police Service will periodically visit the school. Theschool’s policy on drug or drug related violations is as follows:In possession of drug paraphernalia (pipe,paper, knife, other)In possession of drugs/alcohol (any amount)5 day suspension.5 day suspension and a commitment to AADAC for the“Information Series”.In possession of drugs/alcohol (2 nd offense toalcohol/drug policy)Smell of drugs/alcoholSmell of drugs/alcohol (2 nd offense)Smell of drugs/alcohol (3 rd offense)Is under the influence of drugs/alcoholIs under the influence of drugs/alcohol(2nd offense)Is under the influence of drugs/alcohol(3rd offense)Evidence of trafficking drugs5 day suspension with recommendation for voluntary removalor recommendation for expulsion by the board.contact parents, student goes home, if they return they mustcontact an administrator before going to class.3-day suspension and commitment to AADAC for the“Information Series”.5-day suspension with recommendation for voluntary removalor recommendation for expulsion by the Board.2-day suspension and commitment to AADAC for the“Information Series”5-day suspension and commitment to AADAC for the“Information Series”Placed on an alternate program in partnership with AADAC untilAADAC gives the confirmation that the drug problem is resolved.5-day suspension with recommendation for voluntary removalor put on an alternate program off school property.* All alcohol/drug violations will be referred to the school resource officer.QUAD-SCHOOL POLICYAdministrators from the city's four secondary schools have developed regulations to govern studentbehaviour at inter-school functions. <strong>Student</strong>s and parents shall be notified of these regulations.RegulationAction will be taken when a student exhibits any of the following unacceptable behaviours during a cocurricularactivity:a) drinking, being under the influence of, or in the possession of alcohol; orb) using, being under the influence of, or in the possession of illicit drugs; orc) creating a disturbance or endangering others.ConsequencesViolators of this regulation will receive a minimum of:a) a three (3) day suspension from school. This suspension may be reduced to one day and twelve hoursof service to the school, andb) a three (3) month suspension from all co-curricular activities. This suspension may be reduced by up toone-half by providing a service to the school at the rate of 20 hours of service per month of reduction.This service must be completed prior to any reduction taking place. The first half of the suspension mustbe served in any case. A suspended student will be allowed to take part in his/her graduation exercises/ceremony.AppealSuspensions under this regulation may be appealed to the Superintendent. Upon such appearance beingmade, the school administrator will supply all pertinent information to the Superintendent.*Note - <strong>Student</strong>s are not allowed on other school’s property during school hours without permission. This will resultin an automatic suspension.Page 15
