Plate 31A-D. Tiquisate-region <strong>Teotihuacan</strong>-related <strong>in</strong>censario lid, 500-650 AD. Male,<br />

w<strong>in</strong>ged variety: note the umbrella effect of chimney <strong>in</strong> side view. <strong>The</strong> headdress is a flat<br />

form not directly attached to the ma<strong>in</strong> structure. While each of the design elements can<br />

be traced to <strong>Teotihuacan</strong> prototypes, its juxtaposition and rendition are dist<strong>in</strong>ctly <strong>Escu<strong>in</strong>tla</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> orig<strong>in</strong> molds could easily have been brought from Central Mexico, but each<br />

separately made cast<strong>in</strong>g for the <strong>in</strong>censario could be positioned to <strong>Escu<strong>in</strong>tla</strong> taste.<br />
