It was originally called The WhiteHouse until 1801 when Joseph Ridgway J.P., D.L. ofLancashire bought and extended the houseto its present size. Joseph Ridgway owned thebleachworks on the opposite side of Chorley OldRoad. He also had constructed an ‘Ice House’ oneof only two Ice Houses in Lancashire.
