We would like to say thank you in advance to all of ourcustomers and friends for all of your support throughout the years. Seedstock production is something we take veryseriously and feel true responsibility for the genetics we provide all the way from birth to carcass. This sale representsthe oldest born half of our bull calf crop and we retain the younger bulls for our fall sale. They are 100% AI sired bySchurrtop bred or owned sires of which we have an extremely strict criteria.The commercial cattle markets and most of the agriculture prices are on fire and rightly so. Cowherd numbers havediminished and for the first time in history, the American population is competing with the rest of the world for food.There is not much reason for this to change in the foreseeable future.As the times have changed, the input costs have dramatically risen as well, and the importance of feed efficiencyis ever more important. We have been feed efficiency testing our sires and their progeny for over 25 years; and thegenetics in these bulls are a direct result of that testing. Now, we have over two-thirds of our sires proven for ResidualFeed Intake. This form of efficiency testing measures the daily feed intake and compares it with their growth andmaintenance requirements. It is totally independent of frame size, mature weight, production traits, etc. and therehave been no antagonisms found with it. This method gives you a true efficiency of the feed consumed. RFI testing,combined with our 25 years of efficiency tested genetics bred into the cowherd, makes for more efficient uses ofyour resources. Think about the price of an acre of land and being able to reduce the acres of grass and winter feedconsumed by 20-30% per head while maintaining or increasing the pounds produced per head. The same advantagesare true through the feedyard; and research has shown that it can be up to $150 per pair if you retain ownershipof your calves. To use an outside comparison, look at the seed corn industry. Ground that once was producing 150bushels of corn a few years ago is now producing 200 plus bushels of corn on the same piece of ground and withsimilar inputs. The only thing that has changed is genetics and efficiency. Much like the seed corn industry, we areproviding genetics; not just bulls sired by the hot bull of the year.As important as efficiency is, growth, calving ease, maternal, disposition, carcass merit, udder quality and manyother non EPD traits cannot be sacrificed.
