UNDER 15 XVThe Under 15 team has again had an excellent season, possessing an unbeaten recordthroughout . An outstanding feature of the team has been the all-round forward play . The frontrow of Derry, Flatt and Younger has been a very sound unit to build the rest of the pack on . Behindthem, Mason and Jenkins have worked tirelessly, while the back row of Johnson, Spencer andO'Shea have really struck terror into the hearts of opposing half backs . The pack have hunted as aunit, and much of the excellent loose rucking has been a direct result of their ability to be first tothe loose ball .Half-backs Bishop and Wilson have improved steadily throughout the season, showing themselvesto be a very efficient combination . They launched many attacks, bringing McFadyen andBawden, two very powerful centres, into action . These, in turn, created many chances for thewings, Faircloth and Goodwin . At full back, Perkin played very steadily, and his excursions intoattack often proved fruitful .One of the less pleasing features of the season was the attitude and behaviour of the CambridgeH .S . team, who showed a complete lack of discipline in their approach to the game . Thehardest match proved to be that against Norwich School, although the highlight of the seasonmust surely have been the 35-6 win over Greshams, always formidable opponents . Throughout, only five tries were conceded, and many of the Wymondham College players will be making a greatimpression in first team football, if not next season, the season after . J .B .The team was selected from the following :Derry, Flatt, Younger, Mason, Jenkins, Johnson, Spencer, O'Shea, Bishop, Wilson, McFadyen,Bawden (captain), Faircloth, Goodwin, Perkin, Linden-Ball, Parnham and Shayes .ResultsNorthgate G .S . Won 25-0 Points for : 345 ; against : 20 .UNDER 14 XVIn the opening matches of the season, all played on firm pitches, the team produced some fastopen rugby, totalling over 150 points in three games all away from home . However, as playing conditionsbecame heavier, the going was harder for a team largely made up of lightly built players, and the pack were often hard put to it to hold their own, especially in the set scrums . A good fightingspirit, exemplified by the tenacity of Southwood in the pack, the plucky running of Gooch andthe sound defensive work of Cavell, brought its rewards as Wadlow and Herbert (captain) weresent away to run through the opposing defence with often devastating ease . This pair scoredbetween them nearly all the tries of the season .Highlights of the season were a hard-fought match against Norwich School who narrowlygained revenge for their defeat last year, inflicting the only defeat of the term ; and a finely-foughtcontest with Heartsease away from home which ended their three-year unbeaten record .This was a very good season for the Under 14 XV, with only one defeat in ten games, a tributeto hard work and team spirit .The team was selected from the following :Cavell, Clarke, Gooch, Wadlow, Herbert, Rutherford, Wigney, Southwood, Hammond, Dickinson,Grant, Barley, Goldsworthy, Mills, Sayers, Flatters and Howe .ResultsCawston College Won 49-3 Colchester R .G .S .
