Three campuses, six decades and 200-plusSummer 2015 bishopmanogue.org12alumni came together at Bishop Manogue’sinaugural All-School Reunion on June 20.
From Manogue's very first graduatingclass of 1950, to recent graduates,the years were well-represented.Our All-School Reunion kicked offwith a fascinating tour of the campusby Jim Toner, alumni parent, past President,and unofficial historian of BishopManogue Catholic High School. Andalthough none of those taking the tourwent to school in the current building(completed in 2004), Mr. Toner pointedout details throughout that connected thecampuses and the generations. From thestained glass and steeple of the originalChrist the Teacher Chapel to the paintinghonoring a lost member of the Class of’61, the trip around the campus was a tripback in time for many participants.“Old School” alumni were well-representedat the event, and we were honoredto have three attendees from the Classof 1950—Manogue’s very first graduatesand a tight-knit clan of 14 students.Their campus was on the site of the FlickRanch on the east edge of Reno, andConnie Waggoner Sowell remembersthe bucolic setting of her high schoolyears fondly. “It was just beautiful,” shesaid, “with the river running by and thetrees.” The ranch house that served asthe school is currently slated for demolitionto make way for flood planning, butthere is a group in town, www.flick-Ranchproject.com, fighting to have thebuilding moved and restored.“The School on the Hill”—moniker for theValley Road campus that housed the schoolfrom 1957 to 2003—had good representationas well, most notably in the amazing enter-tainment. The Jason King band, fronted byJason King Roxas ’88, brought their bluesysounds to our alumni patio, where partierstapped their toes to the tunes and huntedfor “their brick” among the more than 5,000alumni names inscribed on the pavers.With good food, good friends and goodmemories, our first All-School reunion hadall the elements of a Manogue tradition-inthe-making.
