6Your first weeks in schoolYour first weeks in schoolThere are some specific items of information which should beavailable to you. Depending on how <strong>your</strong> school is organised,these may include:• a staff handbook, including plans ormaps of the school, staff lists, includingroles and responsibilities and informationabout governors• a guide to the resources available• copies of policies affecting the pastoralwork of the school, for example codes ofconduct on pupil behaviour and discipline,equal opportunities, bullying and harassment,special educational needs and homework• copies of subject-specific policies directlyrelevant to new teachers• timetable details• class lists and information about specific pupils• a copy or a summary of any recent inspectionreport• the school development plan or a summaryof this• information about who will be <strong>your</strong> mentor orsupport person when you begin to teach inthe school.In school the first point of contact for NUTmembers is their representative. If there is noNUT representative in <strong>your</strong> workplace you shouldcontact the NUT AdviceLine for advice andguidance (contact details on page 21).
