This ensures that users are comprehensively protectedagainst falls from height, the injuries resulting from collisions with any nearbyhazards and the forces exerted by the safety equipment.Ideal in situations where there is low clearance and a lack of overheadanchorages (such as scaffold construction), the hybrid lanyard – availablein both single and double versions – retracts exactly like a fall arrest block,but can be used like a lanyard, anchored anywhere from below foot level tooverhead.Stop too quick and the equipment can hurt the user, too slow and the user cancollide with other hazards.2

The materials incorporated in theDSL and SSL were carefully selected to meet thedemands of those applications.One common concern during a fall is the likelihoodthat the users lanyard will come into contact withother materials such as roof edges or structuralbeams for example and understanding the effectthis may have. The current European Standards donot provide any criteria for Edge testing. There ishowever a draft standard produced by the VG11working group.SpanSet have carried out edge testing inaccordance with the VG11 guidance and canconfirm the DSL and SSL are both suitable for usein applications where they may come into contactwith edges whilst arresting falls.3
