Process Control Applications<br />
<strong>The</strong> standard <strong>Sirius</strong> computer can, with minor modifications to some <strong>of</strong> its inputloutput<br />
channels, be used for data-logging and limited process-control work. Such<br />
modifications will not in any way alter <strong>the</strong> computer's capacity as a general purpose<br />
computer.<br />
<strong>The</strong> techniques required in order to feed analogue signals into <strong>Sirius</strong> are <strong>the</strong> same<br />
as are required for all o<strong>the</strong>r process-control digital computers, and a considerable<br />
amount <strong>of</strong> useful equipment has already been developed by <strong>Ferranti</strong> Ltd. in connection<br />
with <strong>the</strong> Argus process-control computer. On <strong>the</strong> output side, a wide range <strong>of</strong> logging<br />
devices can be attached and, if <strong>the</strong> machine is to be used for control work, analogue<br />
and digital signals can be generated.<br />
