It is with enthusiasm that our school community prepares for the new class of 2013 to arrive at our doors. We honor
and respect the relationships forged in a learning community built on trust, rigor, relevance and excellence in all
endeavors. We strongly encourage you as parents to spend some quality time with your child, reflecting on the
importance of matching aptitudes, interests, and career aspirations with the various courses available to you. We are
extremely fortunate to have such a comprehensive curriculum in all subject areas. We thank our supporters for
providing strong core subject offerings, extensive elective choices and outstanding opportunities inside and outside the
classroom to seek knowledge, understanding, critical thinking and decision making skills. Please be aware of course
sequencing, prerequisites, and other factors such as NCAA clearinghouse requirements and course rigor expectations for
the post-secondary education when helping your child make course choices for their freshman year.
It is important to know that research supports what we intuitively know – the stronger the course load, the better the
chance for academic success, scores on standardized tests and, most important, success at the college level. We
strongly encourage challenging yourself as much as possible (Yes, this means you too, seniors). Guidance counselors
will assist you if you have questions about course rigor and long-range planning.
A listing of your chosen course selections will be distributed to your child in late spring. Please review and check for
accuracy. Your compliance with the timetable is critical to staffing decisions and a smooth transition to the next school
year.
