2012 Season Outlook
Coming off its most successful season in nearly a decade,
the 2012 edition of University of St. Francis men’s soccer
returns seven starters and more than 80% of its offensive production
of a year ago.
Headlining the corps of returning players for fifth-year
head coach Khochon Thanadabouth are seniors Victor Trujillo
and Michael Kowal. Both players garnered All-Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team accolades after leading
the Saints to a fifth-place finish with a 6-3-1 mark in league
play last fall.
Trujillo scored 15 goals in 18 matches and added seven
assists for 37 points. Four of his goals were game-winners.
Kowal tallied four goals, including a pair of winners, to go along
with one assist. The duo spearheaded a USF offensive attack
that tallied 49 goals in 18 contests.
Four other returnees netted at least three goals last year:
junior Juan Mascote (6 goals), junior Christian Ontiveros (5),
junior Ulises Ornelas (4) and sophomore Wilmer Moreno (3).
Among the key returning players in the back are seniors
Matt Nieciunski and Shaun McMillin. They started a combined
Victor Trujillo scored 15 goals in 2011
22 matches in 2011.
USF will feature new faces in goal this season following the departure of All-CCAC Second Team keeper Juan
Santoliva, who played in 16 of 18 matches a year ago and logged a 1.46 goals against average with two shutouts.
A trio of newcomers led by fifth-year senior Michael Rogers – who joins the team after serving as a punter and
placekicker for the USF football – will vie for the starting position. Senior Mike Moberg, who sat out last year,
and freshman Ryan Reitmeier should also figure in the mix.
