Ifor Ffowcs-Williams<br />

Ifor is a Founder and Past President of TCI - The Global Clusters and Innovation Practitioners<br />

Network and has been described as ‘one of the most influential cluster practitioners in the world’<br />

with experience extending to over 50 countries. Author of ‘Cluster Development: The Go-To<br />

Handbook’.<br />

Frank Murray<br />

Frank Murray has over thirty-five years international business and information technology<br />

experience working for the Multinational and SME sectors in the U.S, U.K, Switzerland and Ireland.<br />

Frank leads an international consultancy practice ‘The Linkage Partnership’ focused on clustering<br />

and network innovation for advanced technology sectors. He was a key interlocutor in bringing<br />

the 3rd International Cluster Conference to Limerick. Frank is Chairman of Piercom Limited, winner<br />

of the prestigious Smithsonian Institute Medal in innovation. Frank is a founder of the Swiss-Irish<br />

Business Association and is currently serving as Vice-Chair for 2015.<br />

Gearoid Mooney<br />

Gearoid Mooney, BEng Electronic Engineering 1984, is Division Manager, Research & Innovation<br />

with Enterprise Ireland. He has held CTO and project management positions in Irish owned hightech<br />

start-ups and is a Chartered Engineer. He joined Enterprise Ireland’s Technology Transfer<br />

and Business Partnership Programme in 1991. Since then he has been involved in every aspect of<br />

Technology Transfer and Business Partnerships, from client consulting through to partner<br />

identification and from technology identification through to negotiations. In September 2013 he<br />

became Division manager Research and innovation which extended his Innovation<br />

commercialisation responsibilities to all technology domains and international innovation<br />

collaborations.<br />

Dr Mary Shire<br />

Dr Mary Shire obtained the degrees of BSc in Science and PhD in Chemistry from the National<br />

University of Ireland, Maynooth. Since completing her PhD in 1994 Dr Shire has held positions in<br />

Celgene Corporation in New Jersey, Yamanouchi Ireland Limited in Dublin and Schwarz Pharma<br />

Ltd. In 2004 Dr Shire set up a consultancy and training business to provide supports to the<br />

pharmaceutical sector in Ireland. In 2005 Dr Shire joined the University of Limerick as the<br />

Technology Transfer Officer and in 2007 took up the role as Director of Research Support Services.<br />

In 2010 Dr Shire completed an MBA degree in Limerick. Dr Shire took up the position of Vice<br />

President for Research at the University of Limerick in 2011.<br />

Prof. Dr Dominique Foray<br />

Dominique Foray is Full Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and<br />

holds the Chair of Economics and Management of Innovation (CEMI). He is a member of the<br />

National Research Council (Switzerland); the Advisory Board of the Swiss Economic Institute<br />

(KOF); and a foreign member of the Center of Capitalism and Society (Columbia University, New<br />

York). He is also a new member of the Expert Commission for Research and Innovation (E-FI) of<br />

Germany. From 2008 to 2011, he served as chairman of the expert group “Knowledge for Growth”.<br />

This is during his service as member of this Group that he developed the concept of smart<br />

specialisation (together with P.A. David and B. Hall) that is now a key policy mechanism of the<br />

EU (cohesion policy).<br />

Prof. Eamonn Murphy<br />

Professor Eamonn Murphy Emeritus is Chair of Innovate Limerick, Director of Irish Centre for<br />

Manufacturing Research Organisation and Chair of Irish Centre Business Excellence. Eamonn’s<br />

background is in Productivity and Innovation, Next generation employability, Integration of<br />

continuous professional development with postgraduate qualifications, Statistical Process control<br />

and Experimental Design and Reliability techniques to optimise products and processes.<br />

H.E. Ambassador Marie-Claude Meylan,<br />

Swiss Ambassador to Ireland<br />

Marie-Claude Meylan holds a law Degree and a Masters of European Laws from the University of<br />

Lausanne obtained in 1991 and 1992. Since the she has held positions including a lawyer in the<br />

Federal Department for Justice, a diplomatic agent with the Legal Service of the Department of<br />

Foreign Affairs and a Desk Office in the Political Affairs Division as Desk Officer. She was transferred<br />

to London in 2002 as First Secretary, responsible for political and legal affairs and promoted<br />

Counsellor in 2003. On return to Bern in 2007, she held position of Head of Staff recruitment<br />

and Marketing for the Department of Foreign Affairs. In July 2010, she was promoted to Minister<br />

and acted as Deputy Head of the Africa and Middle East Division. She was designated Ambassador<br />

of Switzerland to Ireland by the Swiss Federal Council in September 2012 and took her position<br />

in Dublin on 2 December 2013.<br />
