A FAST TRIP ACROSS ASIA
After two pleasant days at
Rangoon, we make ready to depart.
We have . found that Rangoon
contains close to 400,000 people.
It has a fine water supply, and
many modem houses. It was built
alongside the Rangoon river, about
40 miles from the Bay of Bengal.
Perhaps the most interesting
thing In Rangoon is the great
pasroda. which micrht bf» compared.
roughly, to an ice cream cone upside
down. The tip of the cone
is 331 . feet above the ground.
Burmese come from far and wide
to visit this sacred pagoda.
Bidding good-by to Rangoon,
we fly northward toward the Himalaya
mountains.
In Turkey we found mountains
two miles high. In Persia we saw
a peak three miles high. In
Afghanistan we saw the Hindu
Kush mountains, which rise to a
Now we are flying toward mountains
more \ than five miles above
sea level! _
Banty is a fine pilot. When we
ask him to take us over Mt.
Everest, he agrees to do so, and
turns the plane northwestward.
Three cheers! We are right over
Mt. Everest. This peak has defied
the skill of hundreds of mountain
climbers. It Is higher than any
other peak In the Himalayas—In
fact Is the highest in the world.
The air is intensely cold up
here, but we are warmly dressed
and have a closed-in cabin. We
might have trouble breathing if
we had not brought along oxygen
tanks, because the air Is thin' as
well as cold above Mt. Everest.
Now we are north of the Himalaya
range, but we find other
mountains beyond. We are above
the great region known as Tibet.
Tibet makes up a large part of
Wester China. It Is filled with
mountains and high plateaus.
Amid the wilds of Tibet live
wolves, bears, otterl, leopards,
foxes, deer and yaks. The land
is also the home of wild sheep,
wild goats and wild dogs.
The people of Tibet are yellow
folk, related to the Chinese.
MARION DAYIES STARS
IN POLLY OF THE CIRCUS,
SHOWING AT REGENT
There is enough entertainment
for the entire family In Polly of the
Circus, Marlon Davles' new starring
vehicle, showing at the Regent theater.
It is the ideal scxeen presentation,
containing just what young and
old look for on the screen.
Everybody loves the circus and
there is the most thrilling view oC
flying trapese acts you ever witnessed
right at the very start. In
the spectacular climax, other exciting
circus scenes are to be seen
and throughout the picture there
Is a glamour and color aimed to delight
all ages. The romance Is
charming in simplicity and to
those fllmgoers, jaded from reels ot
ultra - sophisticated dialogue, the
story will be refreshing to see and
hear.
Alfred Santell directed the feature
with the thorough understanding
that marked his recent Daddy
