How are Koniag’s management and Board of Directors performing with regard to the Duties and Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, mission, Vision and Values: Are there any suggestions or ideas you may have? I believe the current management and Board a performing well. I would like to become involved at a closer level so that I will know if there are areas where I can make a positive contribution to the growth of our corporation. Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated your personal commitment to Koniag’s Corporate Values. I have overcome an addiction to alcohol and maintained sobriety for eleven and a half years. I was committed to complete my education and finished by graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree. I actively particape in subsistance activities and act as a good steward towards our lands and environment. I am active in my children’s education and well being. I look to other Alaskan Native Peoples for community and knowledge of our culture. Candidate Statement: I believe that my strong ties to my native community and formal education combine to make me an excellent candidate for the Board of Directors. As an engineer I am constantly presented with new and challenging problems that require thoughtful and creative solutions. These skills will give me an advantage in understanding the complex nature of an ANCSA Regional Corporation and help me navigate the uncharted territory of the future. Honoring our enhancement off cultural values of the Sugpiaq Alutiiq people? B. Educating of its Shareholders and Descendants on the history of ANCSA and the creation of our corporation? It is a privilege to be Sugpiaq/Alutiiq and our Corporation does a good job at maintaining that sense of cultural pride. Koniag has come a long way in the last 40 years to make sure our shareholders and descendants know the history of ANCSA and why Koniag exists but there is always room for improvement. Koniag is continuously progressing toward both cultural involvement and historical education and I think we should continue to grow both of those areas while still focusing on sustaining financial growth and increasing dividends. How are Koniag’s management and Board of Directors performing with regard to the Duties and Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, mission, Vision and Values: Are there any suggestions or ideas you may have? Continue to commit to the culture, shareholders, descendents, and business partners, while creating long term relationships that will increasingly grow the trust and pride in Koniag. Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated your personal commitment to Koniag’s Corporate Values Business and Native politics have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I am a product of the benefits ANCSA and Koniag have been able to provide that have effected my family, my education, my employment, and my life decisions. My entire career has been focused on maintaining a long-term perspective, honoring our heritage and culture, embracing diversity, and planning ahead. On a daily basis I commit to furthering the education of those around me and helping them to learn the history and culture, regardless of where they grew up or what region they are from. I am passionate about these things, not because I have to be, but because I recognize the need to plan ahead in order to ensure there is a strong foundation for the future generations to come. I am open about who I am and where I come from and have a sense of pride in belonging to something greater than myself. My family has always been active in Native politics therefore, naturally I attended. In recent years, I have attended every Koniag Picnic, information meeting, committee meeting, as well as annual meetings and Christmas parties. In short, I am extremely committed! :) Candidate Statement: I am energized and passionate about representing Koniag shareholders, descendants, our past and our future. If elected, I will bring a new generation and new perspective to the Board of Directors. No one person has made Koniag a success, I am willing and ready to put in the time, energy, and commitment to be a part of the team that challenges Koniag to the next level. Working together with a great management, current strategies, and strong core values, let’s continue the momentum of our ancestors into the next generation. I believe that my skills, experience, knowledge, honesty, ethics, professionalism, and fresh ideas will be an added asset to the Koniag Board of Directors. Honoring our enhancement off cultural values of the Sugpiaq Alutiiq people? B. Educating of its Shareholders and Descendants on the history of ANCSA and the creation of our corporation? Koniag, as other ANCSA corporations has a unique role of persevering in the corporate world while also enhancing the culture and lives of shareholders. Koniag has demonstrated their commitment to enhancing our cultural values through their support of the Koniag Education Foundation, Alutiiq Museum, individual artists, dance groups and language preservation. Gatherings such as the annual shareholder picnics, informational meetings and other activities provide an opportunity for shareholders to get together to reconnect, tell stories and share family experiences, just as we have always done. In order for shareholders to better understand Koniag, it is important that the creation of our corporation and the 40-year history of ANCSA be shared. More recently, Koniag has included historical information in annual reports and shareholder newsletters. Other ideas I would offer would be to hold seminars during the annual meeting or other gatherings or create documentaries for educational purposes. How are Koniag’s management and Board of Directors performing with regard to the Duties and Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, mission, Vision and Values: Are there any suggestions or ideas you may have? Through my interaction with management and the board of directors of Koniag, I’ve not seen a breach of Duties and Standards of Conduct or Code of Ethics. I believe strongly in shareholder employment and feel that more progress needs to be made on shareholder hire for management positions. Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated your personal commitment to Koniag’s Corporate Values. Those who are close to me know that I never forget where I come from. I keep our people close to my heart and will be working hard with your best interests in mind. You may hear from me from time to time asking for advice and guidance, because I know that I would not represent myself, but all of us in this critical role. I appreciate your consideration of my candidacy for a board seat. The first half of my forty-one years on this earth were spent living in Ouzinkie. Ouzinkie is and always will be home, no matter where I may live. I have passed this value on to my children, and those who know me, know that this is who I am. I care deeply about the future of our villages, and I worry that the population has declined substantially over the years due to lack of economic and educational opportunities. I realize that we have shareholders spread across the country but we have to ensure that we keep Kodiak Island strong and viable as this is our root that we can all trace back to. Candidate Statement: I would be honored to serve my fellow shareholders as a Director for Koniag, Inc. My personal values coupled with my ability to relate and interact with diverse groups will fit well within the dynamics of the board. My honesty and integrity will guide me to make conscious decisions. I understand there will be differences of opinion but feel we can and should be respectful of each other. In my daily employment, I am held to high confidentiality standards and this attribute will carry over into the Koniag board room. The Board of Directors will continue to face challenges in their decisions as they move forward in the best interests of the shareholders. I am ready for that challenge.
