Back on May 25 th , the Class of 2008 celebrated their commencement
as a new beginning of another chapter in their lives. Their presence
alone accompanied by all of their accomplishments over the past four
years, in both curricular and extra-curricular areas, gave solid testimony
to the legacy they left which will forever be ingrained into the
fabric sewn over the past 59 years of EC history.
Their senior gift spoke volumes of lessons learned from living the five Pillars of Excellence, Compassion, Faith,
Tradition, and Community upon which the EC mission has been built. This year’s class constructed a beautiful
grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Grace in the courtyard created between the school and the former convent. It is
truly a place of beauty and serenity to be enjoyed by all members of the school community past, present, and
hopefully, by students for many years to come.
The upcoming school year projects our enrollment to be around 550 students. As we peer into the future, however,
the “clouds” of a strained economy have certainly cast a shadow on the dreams of many residents in Lorain County
who envision their children receiving a Catholic secondary education experienced by so many of us. Although EC’s
tuition will again remain one of the lowest of the 22 Catholic high schools serving northeast Ohio at $6,300, the
challenge posed for many of our families is becoming greater. Currently, one in three of our students receive some
sort of financial assistance.
As you read through the “Prowlings” in this edition of the Panther Prowl, it is our hope that you can recall some
of the lessons and memories that have influenced and shaped you into becoming the person you are today.
If you are one of the 7,600 alumni who cherish the memories and “culture” of the Elyria Catholic community,
please consider being among those who have faithfully “enrolled in the mission” through their continued support
of the values and the power of the spiritually transforming nature of all that is Elyria Catholic. It is my unwavering
belief that the future of EC lies predominately in the hands and the hearts of those who have experienced her
“charism.”
“If you want to be remembered, do something memorable.”
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Andrew G. Krakowiak, President/Principal
