LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Elyria Catholic High School in the 21 st Century
Education has changed and continues with the process of transformation. Some of the knowledge and
skills that students needed to be successful 10 years ago are different from those our present students will
need for their future educational endeavors and careers.
Recently, the faculty and staff participated in a professional development activity that involved viewing a
video presented by renowned educator, Sir Ken Robinson. They learned about the future of education and
how we, as educators, need to incorporate the skills of the 21 st century into lessons/projects.
After viewing this video, the faculty and staff were energized. Ideas such as: innovation, imagination,
communication, collaboration, team work and critical thinking skills, made for lively discussion and a
commitment to incorporate these ideas into our curriculum. These are among the ideas that we, as a school
community, are beginning to incorporate into our communication with the students and the parents. These
are the “new” skills for life and academics in the 21 st century. We as a school community will continue to
evaluate the needs of the students and make the changes needed to prepare our students for the future.
It is with this type of information that we assess our school and continue to strategically plan the “product” of education that we offer. It is with
the assistance of many interested stakeholders, most importantly our alumni, whom we come to and engage to be partners in the school
community. This partnership provides a unique experience that reflects the traditions of our Catholic faith, as well as being on the
cutting edge of equipping our students for the 21 st century.
Peace,
