Dear Members:
You might notice that the cover of this edition of Wild Times is a bit of a
departure from what you’ve seen from us before. Yes, there’s a human
on the cover! Don’t worry, we’re not abandoning the fantastic photos of
non-humans you’ve come to expect from Wild Times, but we did feel that this
image was especially appropriate in light of the opening of our all-new Splash
Fountain this summer.
We’re grateful to our friends at the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority for presenting the Splash Fountain,
which has already earned rave reviews from our Members and guests. Even if water play isn’t your thing, I’d encourage
everyone to stop by and see the jets in action. I know that seeing the children play is an uplifting experience for me,
and it’s a great reminder that as we work together to make a difference for wildlife around the world, we also seek to
provide a memorable destination where families can enjoy precious time together.
As most of you are by now aware, it continues to be quite a summer here at Zoo Atlanta! Just as we were preparing
to head to print on this edition of Wild Times, Lun Lun the giant panda surprised us by giving birth to not one, but two,
cubs on July 15. Look for more on the twins in an upcoming edition.
Even as I write, we’re also awaiting exciting news from Andazi the eastern black rhinoceros, Sukari the western lowland
gorilla and Miri the Bornean orangutan, all of whom are expecting. There’s never a dull moment for us here at the Zoo,
and I suspect that’s one of the many reasons you enjoy being a Zoo Atlanta Member.
