EXPECTATIONS:<br />

Your essay will be based on the National Planning Commission’s Vision for 2030.<br />

Answer the essay question in the light of ONE of the following three areas of the<br />

NPC’s Vision:<br />

1 T R A N S F O R M A T I O N A N D U N I T Y<br />

2 E CON O M Y<br />

3 EDU CA T I O N<br />

You need to choose one of these three and then write about how you understand<br />

the problem, what solutions you can think of to implement and how you think these<br />

solutions will improve the state the Economy/ Education/ Transformation and Unity<br />

in South Africa. In explaining the solutions that you proffer, you need to put the<br />

challenges in this area into their historical context. Your essay, however, needs to<br />

be more focused on the solutions. It is important that these solutions are practical;<br />

take into account the impact of the past on present-day experiences and attitudes;<br />

and are aligned to and would help implement the NDC’s Vision for 2030.<br />

REQUIREMENTS:<br />

You need to work in groups of three or four. The members of your group do not<br />

need to attend the same school or be in the same grade, but they must be between<br />

15 and 18 years’ of age.<br />

Your essay needs to be 2000 words in length.<br />

The essay should not include headings or images and should be one solid body of<br />

writing.<br />

You need to include a complete and accurate reference list. Your reference list<br />

should reveal that you have used a wide array of resources, including books,<br />

newspapers and internet sources. Your reference list will be assessed as part of your<br />

essay. Do not see it as an afterthought. You will be given guidance as to how to<br />

construct a reference list.<br />

You do not need to provide referencing in the body of your essay unless you quote<br />

directly from a text. You may choose if you would like to use footnotes, endnotes or<br />

in-text referencing for this. Be consistent throughout the essay.<br />

You may include an addendum of sources but this is not a requirement. The<br />

addendum would only be included if it is necessary to highlight a source that would<br />

be difficult to describe in text in the essay, e.g. the addendum could include graphs,<br />

or an advertisement or photograph. The addendum should add to the reader’s
