Staff Revel in Christmas Party Cheer
Reef Group’s annual Christmas party once again proved a
great night out for all the staff who attended. It provided the
perfect opportunity to celebrate the end of a challenging year
and to look forward to the festivities of the Christmas season.
The night was filled with wonderful food and drinks, energetic
dancing and a fun filled staff quiz competition (which included
a “dance off” to select the final winning team). The quiz was
certainly a highlight of the night as there was a lot at stake
not just team pride, but the fact that the winning prize was a
complimentary holiday for all members of the winning team
to Rarotonga. The eventual winners were “Mixed Veggies”,
aptly named as their team was a splendid mix of staff from
across the company. The team was ably led by John Gresson.
Other victorious team members were Shelly Carr, Karen
Brooks, Joel Gillott, Kava Leausa, Alison Ludemann. The
festivities took place at the Dom, on Dominion Rd.
Samoa Jazz & Blues Festival delights Crowds
The inaugural Samoa Jazz and Blues festival held last month
was a fantastic showcase of Jazz and blues music of the
highest quality. It also proved a perfect showcase for Samoa
as a destination for music festivals and major events. Reef
Shipping was part of the sponsorship team that made the
showcase possible. Held over three days from 12-14 November
the festival provided the perfect 'chilled out' holiday vibe, with
a line-up that included leading jazz and blues musicians from
New Zealand, Australia, England and the United States; not to
mention talented local bands and entertainers.
The international artists included renowned musicians, Edna
Love (San Fran Queen of Blues & Soul), Billy TK Jnr (Kiwi
guitar hero), Tony Painting (UK blues guitarist), Phil
Broadhurst (internationally acclaimed jazz pianist), LA crooner
Diana Harris and a total of 20 bands! In opening the event,
The Minister of Samoa Tourism Honourable Misa Telefoni
commented 'This event is a first for Samoa and we are proud
to welcome world class musicians and guests to our island
paradise for the festival”. Festival Director Billy Te Kahika
added, 'Samoa is the perfect place to hold a festival like this.
I'm excited about the musicians that came and the beautiful
destination, it was an amazing project!”.
Reef supports “eDay Cook islands”
As part of Reef’s contribution to an environmentally
sustainable Pacific, Reef shipping was privileged to support
“eDay Cook Islands” a spin off from New Zealand’s “eDay”, a
free computer recycling event. The Cook Island event was
significant as it marked the first “eday” to be held in the
Pacific Islands. The initiative is a response to increasing
concern with the volume of e-waste accumulating in the Cook
Islands and provided an opportunity for the local community
to dispose of their old PCs, computer peripherals and mobile
phones for safe recycling. Held at the Te Atukura grounds in
Rarotonga the project was organised by a local action group
including the Cook Islands National Environment Service, the
Cook Islands Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of
Education, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Planning and a
number of local businesses. The containers of e-waste
collected in Rarotonga were then shipped to New Zealand by
Reef for recycling as part of the e-waste collected at New
Zealand’s eDay events.
