SANGER HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Indians football
ready to take on Krum
ARDMORE, Okla. —
Leading at halftime 14-7,
the Sanger Indians used a
smothering defense in the
second half to power them
to a 26-14 victory against the
Ardmore Plainview Indians
on Friday at Plainview Indian
Field.
Sanger held Plainview
to only 98 rushing yards on
42 carries. The arm of Plainview
junior quarterback Kobe
Brewster helped keep the
team in the game. But down
the stretch, it was the strong
showing by the Sanger defensive
unit that kept Plainview
out of the end zone in
the second half that proved
to be the difference.
Sanger (2-0), scored on
its first offensive possession.
After stopping Plainview on
its initial possession, Sanger
moved 54 yards in eight
plays to jump to a 7-0 lead
with Peyton Howard running
it in from 18 yards out with
5:55 left in the first quarter.
Plainview (0-1), got its
only offensive score of the
game on its next try at the
ball. Brewster moved his
squad 80 yards in 13 plays
to knot the game. Brewster
rolled around left and got in
the corner of the end zone for
a touchdown with a minute
left in the period.
Sanger turned Plainvew
away on two occasions in the
second quarter but managed
to take the lead when Howard
scored again, this time
on a run of 12 yards. Time
ran out on Plainview when
it moved inside the Sanger
5-yard line late in the half.
But Sanger managed a big
defensive stop and took a
14-7 halftime lead.
Plainview tied the game
early in the third when
Sanger quarterback C.J.
Contest StatsJackson threw a pass that
was picked off by Plainview’s
Kameron Spencer, who returned
it 35 yards for a touchdown
less than two minutes
into the second half to tie the
game at 14.
But Plainview could not
generate much offense in the
second half. Sanger forced a
safety with Plainview backed
up inside its 5-yard line. Abad
snap back to the quarterback
went through the end zone to
put Sanger on top 16-14.
Sanger’s offense, which
out-gained Plainview’s 396-
250, then took control. Dameon
Moser scored on a 34-yard
run on the first offensive play
for Sanger following a short
Plainview kick for a 23-14
lead.
“This is a rivalry game so we
will expect their best game
and certainly expect our kids
to play well also,” said Sanger
coach Chuck Galbreath.
“Krum is similar to us on offense.
They will be in the gun
and use several different formations
and motions. They
run zone, power and counter
and will take some shots in the
passing game. Their QB, #19
Colten Graham, has a strong
arm and runs tough. Their
running back, #44 Haeden
Knight moved to Krum from
Sanger this summer and has
had a good season so far for
the bobcats.”
Krum bases out of a 3-3
Stack on defense. They have
also shown a 4-2-5 defense.
player and plays physical for
Sanger JV vs. Byron Nelson
Kickoffs The Sanger Indian JV football team came up short against the Byron Nelson Bobcats Sanger
on Thursday September 3, 2015. The Bobcats defeated the Indians 28-7. Despite being able to
move the ball, the Indians could not turn drives into points. The Bobcats received the ball to start
3 of 5 the game and put points on the board with their opening possession. Sanger also marched down 9/8/15 5
the field with their first possession to tie the game at seven. Although the Indians were able to find
success running the ball and completing several passes, they were unable to finish in the end
zone.
Big plays propelled the Bobcat offense to take the lead going into half time. In the second
half, Byron Nelson scored two more touchdowns, as the Indians were unable to find the end
zone. The first loss of the season was disappointing for the Indians but they are looking forward
to playing rival Krum at home next Thursday September 10, 2015.
