What’s New would like to wish everyone in Ballymun a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year A synopsis of Ballymun, A History volumes 1& 2 will be distributed to all residents of Ballymun in the next few weeks. The history covers the period from 1600 to 1997. Artists impression of the new Coultry Park. BRL will be starting construction of a new district park for Coultry and Shangan in the new year. Facilities will include a full size football pitch, a five-a-side kick-about area which can double as a basketball court, three playgrounds to cater for different age groups, a picnic area, a performance space and of course, lots of flowers and trees. The park will be edged with an avenue of lime trees, lit at night time. The designs, by Landscape Architects, Rummey Design Associates will be put on public display in AXIS in January with construction on phase 1 of the park starting in the Spring. There are new road junction layout signs installed at the approaches to Ballymun. The signs show newly opened junctions and junctions to be opened in the near future. Ballymun Regeneration thanks motorists and pedestrians for their patience during construction of the new Main Street. The short-term inconveniences will be well worth the long term benefits for all residents and road users when road works are completed in 2003. Leisure Centre construction has started and work is progressing well on the Civic building and Gateway buildings (Silloge 1). 7
