Club queens it by saving £6,000 Two of the top energy suppliers, British Gas and npower have already announced yet another hike in fuel prices due to come into effect this month, with rises expected to average 8.8% for gas and 9.1% for electricity. Energy bills are normally clubs’ second largest overhead after staff but this winter’s price increases may only worsen those statistics — in some cases forcing energy bills up to become a club’s biggest outgoing. Queens Social Club in Sheffield are today breathing a sigh of relief that they eliminated their old gas heating in favour of a state-of-the-art warm air heating system from Envtec Services Ltd — especially as they saved more than £6,000 in 2011. Club Secretary Ian Thomas said: “Our old gas boiler system caused us nothing but problems, it cost us a fortune to run yet members were still cold. We had to heat the whole club even when we were only using a proportion of it. “In fact our concert room was unbelievable; we had to switch the heating on at 8am to ensure that it was warm enough for the evening.
