establishes technical priorities, standards and procedures
and ensures sufficient systems capacity for organizational
needs. As such, he has been an invaluable resource to all
CBA staff across Canada.
At the Young Lawyers’ closing lunch on Tuesday, August
17 th , Rod Snow of Whitehorse, assumed the presidency of
the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) , accepting the chain
of office from outgoing President Kevin Carroll, QC. Rod
is the first CBA President to hail from North of 60.
CBA’s news release on the event quotes Rod as saying, ‚I
hope to bring a Northern perspective on national issues
such as access to justice and legal aid. Based on my
experience of 17 years in the north and more than 25 years
as a partner in a national law firm, I know we can do more
to improve access to justice for individuals with Fetal
Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).‛ He went on to note
that, ‚I know that lawyers everywhere are under pressure
from a confluence of factors such as globalization,
technological change, and the fallout from the recent
recession to adapt and do more for less. These kinds of
issues will be my priorities.‛
The CBA’s new Skilled Lawyer Series and the Partnership
Toolkit are two very valuable ‚tools‛ you will not want to
miss. Watch the Obiter and the Weekly E-Bulletins to learn
more about how you can participate in the CPD sessions.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve on the
Executive Committee. I look forward to assisting in my
role as Past President.
