– site where T and B cells become immunocompetent<br />

• able to recognize and respond to antigens<br />

• T and B cells develop plasma membrane receptors matched to the pathogen’s<br />

antigen<br />

• secondary lymphatic organs<br />

– lymph nodes, tonsils, and spleen<br />

– where we can find immunocompetent cells
