Hybrid between Russian <strong>Olive</strong> (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and Silverberry<br />

(Elaeagnus commutata). Selected by Greg Morgenson of Bismark, North<br />

Dakota. Introduced in Canada by Jeffries Nurseries Ltd.<br />

Moderate; shows hybrid vigour.<br />

Description:<br />

Medium shrub with weeping growth habit, attractive silver-white foliage.<br />

Produces small silver fruit with inviable seed. Shows reduced suckering<br />

compared to its parent, the native Silverberry<br />

Culture:<br />

Grows best in full sunlight. <strong>Silverscape</strong> ® will tolerate poor soil and dry<br />

conditions. These properties make it very suitable for shelterbelts and<br />

land reclamation.<br />

shelterbelts and land reclamation. It would also be of use for bank<br />

stabilization. Its non-viable seeds will eliminate the problem of<br />

invasiveness that has characterized Russian <strong>Olive</strong>.<br />
