Introduction
Cloudscape III use cases and Position Papers for the <strong>SIENA</strong>
<strong>European</strong> <strong>Roadmap</strong> on Grid and Cloud Standards for
e-Science and Beyond
Cloud computing is expected to play a key role in the digital economy in Europe and beyond.
To ensure <strong>European</strong> citizens gain real benefits from the cloud, it is essential that we address
legal and institutional barriers, as well as technical challenges such as interoperability.
The <strong>SIENA</strong> <strong>Roadmap</strong> on grids and clouds for <strong>European</strong> research infrastructures and public
services addresses interoperability and standards and in the next 15 months is committed to
delivering a policy framework for distributed computing that ensures fair competition and
brings to bear <strong>European</strong> strategic priorities.
To help achieve these goals, the <strong>SIENA</strong> consortium is drawing on Cloudscape III to showcase
speakers from all over the globe who will offer their personal insights on specific use cases
or interoperability issues surrounding Cloud computing.
The following use cases and position papers have been collected for the Cloudscape III
event, serving primarily as a sample of the cloud computing landscape. They highlight
potential challenges for deliberation at Cloudscape III and for the <strong>SIENA</strong> <strong>Roadmap</strong> Editorial
Board in the coming months, with the aim of shaping future developments and the <strong>SIENA</strong>
<strong>Roadmap</strong> itself.
