promise interviewer morale [11], increasing the risk of
fabrication. Each of these factors bears further exploration,
as do methods to reduce or eliminate the risks
introduced by each one.
Applying a combination of methods will help increase
the effectiveness of methods to counter fabrication.
Nobody wants to focus on survey data fabrication.
It is an expensive distraction from our main purpose of
using survey research as a tool of inquiry. But as Crespi
notes, to earn the perception (and reality) of reliability,
survey researchers must work for it.
