Eric Boe to pilot space shuttle a<br />

second time<br />

NASA has assigned a crew for<br />

its next space shuttle mission,<br />

which includes Air Force Col.<br />

Eric Boe as shuttle pilot.<br />

Targeted to launch in September 2010, the<br />

eight-day mission, designated STS-133, will<br />

carry a pressurized logistics module to the<br />

International Space Station.<br />

Boe, who piloted the shuttle to the space<br />

station for STS-126 in late 2008, retains his<br />

membership in Civil Air Patrol, crediting<br />

CAP for first sparking his interest in flight when he<br />

was a CAP cadet in Georgia. He is a staunch<br />

supporter of CAP, serving as keynote<br />

speaker for the organization’s annual<br />

conference in September.<br />

For the 2010 mission, Boe will<br />

be joined by the mission<br />

commander, Air Force Col. Steven<br />

W. Lindsey, who will be making his<br />

fifth shuttle flight. Mission<br />

specialists will include veteran Air<br />

Force Col. Benjamin Alvin Drew Jr.<br />

and long-duration spaceflight<br />

veterans Michael R. Barratt, a medical doctor; Army<br />

Col. Timothy L. Kopra; and Nicole P. Stott. ▲<br />
