The 32 clubs on the starting grid for the 2012/13 include
12 former winners of the UEFA Champion Clubs’ Cup/
UEFA Champions League, ranging from the defending
champions to Celtic FC whose victory in Lisbon was 45
years ago. There are also long-awaited returns for RSC
Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain, absent for six and
eight years respectively. Debuts in the 2012/13 season for
Montpellier Hérault FC, Málaga CF and FC Nordsjælland
mean that 127 different clubs have now taken part in the
group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
