Round Up
design team of the year
mark
Formed in 2003 and since then their
client base has grown, crossing a variety
of different sectors. Although a small
team, they have shown to be a very
experienced team, working with some of
the world’s largest brands. Their work
entered into the Roses Design Awards
has echoed that this agency is one to
watch, as they continue on their path
of providing great design work with
excellent value and service.
The Neighbourhood
The annual Roses Design Awards bowed out in style last
month when a host of Britain’s top design and architecture
talent assembled at Manchester’s Mercure Hotel to hear
who would emerge victorious in a tussle for the top.
Now, with hangovers finally abating, we can revisit some of
the night’s big winners with the benefit of a clear head.
The North West venue provided the perfect platform
from which to celebrate some stunning pieces of work to be
completed over the past 12 months with architecture firm
Reiach & Hall having more to celebrate than most having
picked up the prestigious architectural practice of the year
accolade.
The practice proved to be as permanent a fixture on the
winner’s podium as the lectern itself with the practice
scooping gold awards for Dundee House and Maggie’s
A Chairman’s Award for their design work on a Borders
Weavers Cottage proved to be the icing on a particularly
glittering cake although Reiach & Hall didn’t have things
entirely their own way - Aedas won the Grand Prix Award
with their Darwen Aldridge Community Academy building.
Over in the design camp meanwhile Neighbourhood emerged
as the bars biggest patrons – after they netted the best in
show design Grand Prix award for their work on ‘A Kid in a
Sweetshop’. The Neighbourhood team were in good company
with Glad and Mark picking up the Chairman’s Award and
Design Team of the Year respectively.
If one thing is clear from this year’s roster it is that 2012’s
hopefuls have a hard act to follow.
architect practice of the year
reiach + hall
This practice founded in 1965 has grown
enormously over the years and now
employs a total of 29 staff that enjoy
a very broad portfolio of projects over
47 years in the profession from flat
conversions to major regional hospitals.
The practice believes that this diversity
of scale and use allows each sector
to enrich and inform the others while
keeping our thinking fresh. This practice
constantly review what building means,
encouraging discussion and reflection
while placing great store in the talents
and commitment of the individuals who
contribute collectively to each project.
