History of Jardine Apartments Originally 192 apartments were ready for occupancy in 1957. An additional 264 apartments were completed by the end of 1959 and 120 more were added in 1963, bringing the total number of apartments to 576. In honor of William M. Jardine, K-State’s seventh president, the apartments were named Jardine Terrace in 1966. Though originally constructed to serve solely as married student housing, Jardine Apartments have evolved over the years to meet the housing needs of an ever-changing student population. Today, Jardine Apartments accommodates students that are upperclassmen, graduate, nontraditional, married (with or without children) or single parents. In the fall of 1985, Building L was converted to a child development center that provided full day care for up to 197 children, ranging in ages from 6 weeks to 12 years. In 2011, the child development center moved to a new location and this provided the opportunity to renovate this building. In 2011, the Living Community at Jardine was opened to serve residence hall students in an apartment setting. The apartment community is in the midst of a major redevelopment project which began in the summer of 2005, and continues to change the menu of apartment living options currently available. This redevelopment will enable Housing and Dining Services to better serve our K-State students and families. Rent Residents have options regarding the payment of rent: Plan A: Payment Plan For continuing students with July 1 agreements, one payment will be due June 1, and one payment will be due December 9. For incoming residents, with August 1 agreements, one payment due July 1, and one payment due December 9. Payments will be made directly to Housing and Dining Services and may be paid with cash, check, money order or credit card. All payment plans not paid to Housing and Dining Services by close of business on the above dates will be automatically converted to the University Account Plan (pay each semester) and due as specified. Credit card payments must be made by 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Checks must be payable to Housing and Dining Services. Residents, who make an advance payment through Plan A, in accordance with the date specified in the agreement, receive a $25 discount. There is a $30 service charge on all returned checks. Plan B: University Billing Account Plan (iSIS) The first payment will be placed on the student’s university billing account the month prior to occupancy and due as specified. For residents with agreements beginning July 1, the charge will be placed in June and/or December with payment due in July and/or January and those with August 1 start dates, will be charged in July and/or December with payment due in August and/or January.
Jardine Staff and Town Hall Associate Director The associate director is a member of the management team for Housing and Dining Services. Focus areas of responsibility include apartment living, residence life and marketing and communications. Assistant Director The assistant director is responsible for the direct supervision of the neighborhood staff, as well as the day-to-day interaction with students and their families, as a function of the Jardine Apartments office. Town Hall The Jardine Town Hall is a monthly forum where residents are invited to come hear updates on the Jardine community, learn about housing and campus resources, ask questions of staff and get to know other members of the community. Each month, there is a new central topic and all residents are encouraged to attend. Administrative Officer In addition to overseeing daily office operations, the administrative officer coordinates apartment assignments, check-in/checkout procedures, and assists the assistant director. Administrative Assistant The administrative assistant handles daily office operations and residents’ inquiries. Occupancy Coordinator The occupancy coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the application and assignment process. This position coordinates all matters related to a resident’s occupancy while at Jardine. Apartment Area Coordinators The Denison, Plaza, and West End Neighborhoods as well as the Living Community at Jardine and Claflin each have a full-time, live-in apartment area coordinator. The area coordinators provide management and supervision as related to administration, property management, and programming activities for their respective neighborhoods. They also select, supervise, and train undergraduate and graduate student staff. Coordinators hold a master’s degree in student personnel or a related field and are resources for areas across campus and the community. Assistant Coordinators Assistant coordinators are live-in graduate student staff. Administrative responsibilities for assistant coordinators consist of the general supervision of buildings, including conducting check-in/checkout procedures and assisting with lockouts. In addition to being advocates for community development and social programming, Jardine assistant coordinators also serve as resource persons and liaisons between residents and Housing and Dining Services. Resident Assistants Resident assistants are live-in undergraduate student staff. Resident assistant responsibilities include general supervision of buildings, including conducting checkin/checkout procedures and assisting with lockouts. In addition to being advocates for community development and social programming, resident assistants also serve as resource persons and liaisons between residents and Housing and Dining Services. GMRT Staff Each neighborhood has a general maintenance and repair technician who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of their neighborhood facilities.
