TALK TO ME ABOUT THE WORD “SUSTAINABLE.”
Sustainable seafood is fished or farmed using practices that maintain healthy
seafood populations without harming the environment.
HOW DOES RUBIO’S FIT IN?
We strive to source sustainable seafood whenever we can. And the good
news is, nearly every seafood item on our menu is certifi ed sustainable or from
responsibly managed fi sheries. That includes our Wild Alaska Pollock, Shrimp,
Regal Springs ® Tilapia, and Atlantic Salmon.
With certain fi sh — like Mahi Mahi — sustainable just isn’t possible yet.
Hopefully that changes. Mostly for the sake of the Mahi Mahi, who we love.
WHO CERTIFIED THE SEAFOOD?
The Wild Alaska Pollock found in our Original Fish Taco ® is sourced from
the icy ocean waters in Alaska and is certifi ed as responsibly managed in
accordance with the FAO-Based Responsible Fishery Management (RFM)
Certifi cation. This means that they meet the criteria of the United Nations
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Code of Conduct for Responsible
Fisheries. Our responsibly farm-raised Regal Springs Tilapia is certifi ed by the
Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and our Shrimp & Atlantic Salmon
come from fi sheries that are certifi ed in accordance with Best Aquaculture
Practices (BAP). These third party certifi cations are awarded to fi sheries that
meet sustainable seafood standards and for seafood traceability.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Look for this icon on our menu to fi nd items that feature:
SUSTAINABLE
SEAFOOD
By choosing seafood that is fi shed or farmed in ways that don’t harm the
environment, you help preserve ocean species and ensure a healthy ocean for
future generations. So that’s good. To go the extra nautical mile, just be aware of
where the fi sh you purchase comes from and how it was caught or raised. And
choose fi sh that is sustainable when you can.
