Company history<br />
1933 – 1995<br />
1933–45<br />
At first, the company specialises in spectacle frames, reading<br />
magnifiers and all kinds of optical lenses, and in spectacles for<br />
special applications, such as protective eyewear with wire mesh.<br />
In 1937, the company is incorporated as a private limited<br />
company and is listed in the trade register as “A. <strong>SCHWEIZER</strong> GmbH,<br />
optische Fabrik”.<br />
The owner families Schweizer and Hummel suffer reprisals at the<br />
hands of the National Socialists.<br />
1957<br />
The Forchheim-based family of Johann Schüttinger acquires<br />
the company from the trustee acting for the successors of<br />
company founder Abraham Schweizer, who are living in the USA.
