• Painted the streets in Houston as<br />
part of the Via Colori Street Painting<br />
Festival, a weekend of creativity<br />
and fun that benefited the Center for<br />
Hearing and Speech, which helps<br />
children with hearing impairments.<br />
• Celebrated the launch of a new Fair<br />
Play in Community Sports Act Toolkit,<br />
which helps community members<br />
and park and recreation departments<br />
achieve gender equity in local<br />
sports programs. Several Latham<br />
lawyers collaborated with Coaching<br />
Corps and the Legal Aid Society-<br />
Employment Law Center to create<br />
the materials.<br />
• Welcomed ninth graders from<br />
Thurgood Marshall Academy, a<br />
public charter school that offers a<br />
standards-based curriculum with<br />
an educational program focused<br />
on the law, democracy, and human<br />
rights. The “Law Day” program brings<br />
students to law firms, including our<br />
Washington, D.C. office, where<br />
lawyers supervise mock trials<br />
and discussions on advocacy,<br />
negotiation, and other legal issues.<br />
• Held a diaper drive to benefit<br />
domestic violence and homeless<br />
shelters in Orange County. Our<br />
Orange County office also held a<br />
cereal drive, donating 100 pounds of<br />
cereal to a local food bank.<br />
• Prepared and served meals to more<br />
than 600 individuals at GLIDE,<br />
which offers support services to<br />
poor and marginalized people in<br />
San Francisco, as part of our San<br />
Francisco office’s annual Community<br />
Service Day.<br />
• Accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge<br />
to promote awareness of<br />
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).<br />
The firm also made a donation to<br />
ALS Association.<br />
• Welcomed students from Project<br />
SELF to our Orange County office.<br />
This program, initiated by the Orange<br />
County Bar Foundation, provides<br />
positive work experiences at local<br />
law firms for underprivileged area<br />
high school students.<br />
