MARINE: THE NEXT
GENERATION COLLAGEN
Marine-derived collagen provides a wide range of benefits
over porcine, bovine, and other terrestrial sources.
With its low molecular weight, marine collagen peptides offer
excellent solubility, absorption, and bioavailability compared
with porcine and bovine sources. Plus, the risk of illness is
minimized with marine collagen—not the case with other
animal sources, which have been associated with disease
transfer to humans.
Additionally, marine-based collagen peptides and gelatin
contain no pork or beef products. This makes them widely
accepted across cultures and religions. For instance, all Vinh
Hoan Collagen products are Halal certified.
UNIQUE ADVANTAGES OF
TROPICAL FRESHWATER COLLAGEN
While marine collagen offers clear advantages over other animal
sources, collagen derived from our tropical freshwater fish provides
even greater benefits.
Greater compatibility
The temperature of the environment an animal is raised in
shapes the collagen makeup of its skin. Because our fish
spend their lives in fresh, room-temperature water, they
produce collagen that is biologically very similar to that in
terrestrial animals, including humans. This makes our collagen
peptides and gelatin an excellent substitute for products
sourced from porcine and other terrestrial animals—something
you don’t get from the skin of cold water ocean fish.
peptides provide even greater solubility, absorption, and
bioavailability than other marine sources.
Exceptional purity with no heavy metals
Collagen peptides and gelatin sourced from freshwater,
tropical fish offer unmatched purity. Studies have shown
that marine collagen taken from ocean-going fish can be
contaminated with heavy metals. Our freshwater, farm-raised
fish minimize this risk.
Greater solubility, absorption, and bioavailability
Collagen peptides derived from marine sources typically
provide higher solubility, absorption, and bioavailability
compared to both bovine and porcine. But our tropical,
freshwater fish offer additional benefits. With a range of
molecular weights as low as 1000 Daltons, our collagen
Freshwater imparts less scent and flavor
Sodium amplifies flavors and scents, even unwanted ones.
Unlike collagen sourced from sea fish, our collagen peptide
and gelatin products are low in sodium, and contain no
unwanted odors or flavors.
Unique
amino acid profile
Our single-source, Pangasius hypophthalmus,
has a unique amino acid profile rich in
essential nutrients.
Our collagen peptide and gelatin products contain more
natural hydroxyproline and proline than products from any
other marine collagen source. We also offer a greater
concentration of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA:
isoleucine, leucine, and valine), as well as lysine and
phenylalanine, than any other source. In addition to
specific health benefits, our single-species source means
we can consistently deliver this unique amino acid profile
with minimal variation.
key amino acids
Isoleucine, Leucine & Valine
Isoleucine, leucine and valine are collectively known as
branched-chain amino acids (BCAA). These three amino acids
share a similar structure and are critical to human health.
Since none of them are synthesized in the body, these amino
acids must be ingested, typically through the consumption of
protein. Branched-chain amino acids are unique in their ability
to stimulate the building of protein in muscle and may reduce
muscle atrophy. They play a key role in liver function,
hemoglobin formation, and the stability and regulation of
blood sugar and energy levels. Research suggests they may
also play a role in cognitive functioning.
Proline
Proline, along with ascorbic acid, is required for the body to
produce hydroxyproline. As such, it is among the most unique
and important of the amino acids. Proline plays important
roles in protein synthesis and structure, metabolism, and
nutrition, as well as with wound healing, antioxidative
reactions, and immune responses. The hydroxylation of
proline, resulting in hydroxyproline, is a critical biochemical
process for maintaining the connective tissue.
Hydroxyproline
Hydroxyproline plays a key role in maintaining the stability
of collagen in humans, helping maintain healthy connective
tissue such as ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. Diminished
levels of hydroxyproline signal inadequate vitamin C intake
and can first result in problems with gums and hair as well
as scurvy.
Lysine
Lysine has been found to play a major role in calcium
absorption, building muscle tissue, and recovering from
injuries, as well as with the body’s production of hormones,
enzymes, and antibodies. Lysine is the precursor to allysine,
which is produced in the extracellular matrix and is crucial in
the crosslink formation that stabilizes collagen and elastin,
essential for connective tissue, including healthy skin.
Phenylalanine
Phenylalanine is an amino acid that is a natural component
of mammalian breast milk. It plays a key role in the
biosynthesis of other amino acids and is important in the
structure and function of many proteins and enzymes.
Phenylalanine is also converted to tyrosine, a precursor to
the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. This
makes it important to cognitive function. Phenylalanine is
used in medicine for depression, attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD), Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain,
osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, alcohol withdrawal
symptoms, and the skin disease vitiligo.
A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO
COLLAGEN PEPTIDE
AND GELATIN PRODUCTION
All our collagen peptides and gelatin come from one source: our own
farm-raised, single-species fish (Pangasius hypophthalmus). No one else
in the world has such a remarkably consistent, controlled, and
abundant source of freshwater marine collagen.
LOOKING OUT FOR CONSUMERS
Traceability is becoming ever-more important to consumers
and producers alike. We’ve long believed that it’s one of
the keys to our ability to consistently deliver high-quality,
pharmaceutical-grade collagen peptides and gelatin.
And at our processing factory, we maintain a modern
wastewater management system that meets international
and domestic standards for water output, earning Vinh Hoan
Collagen ISO 14001 certification.
Since we breed, feed, raise, and harvest the fish ourselves, we
maintain total control over every aspect of the product cycle.
Our strict controls and testing ensure our collagen is pure and
safe, ideal for your most demanding applications.
LOOKING OUT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Success followed success, with Vinh Hoan becoming the
first Pangasius producer in Vietnam to obtain Aquaculture
Stewardship Council (ASC) certification, which focuses on
the cornerstones of farming: environmental protection,
community factors, food safety, and traceability.
