QFIS hosts
lecture on use of
crowdfunding as an
entrepreneurship tool
The Center for Islamic Economics and
Finance at Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies
(QFIS), a college of Hamad bin Khalifa
University (HBKU), a member of Qatar
Foundation, held a public lecture titled
‘Entrepreneurship, Crowdfunding, and
Islamic Finance’ on 9 September 2015.
Delivered by Dr Shehab Marzban,
Assistant Professor in Islamic Finance,
QFIS, and Co-founder of ‘Shekra
Crowdfunding’, the lecture drew a
distinction between the work of
conventional and Islamic banks. It offered
ideas for mobilizing capital and promoting
start-up, small, and medium-sized
enterprises, through the use of innovative
and desired asset-based and equity-based
financial products, which are typically
Shari’a-compliant.
"For Islamic finance to be financially
inclusive, entrepreneurship with
crowdfunding can potentially be a useful
tool at its disposal,” Dr Syed Nazim Ali,
Director, Center for Islamic Economics and
Finance said of the lecture.
