Musaffah Port and the new Musaffah<br />

Channel<br />

Located in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s<br />

industrial area, Musaffah Port<br />

accommodates a general cargo terminal<br />

and has an extensive waterfront of nearly<br />

40 kilometres with numerous private<br />

berths and terminals. Musaffah Port and<br />

the new Musaffah Channel serve the<br />

adjacent industrial area and Industrial<br />

City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).<br />

A number of large commercial and<br />

industrial companies occupy the<br />

waterfront, including steel works,<br />

shipyards, rig construction, offshore<br />

construction, as well as supply, dredging,<br />

shipping and construction companies.<br />

The new Musaffah Channel measures a<br />

length of 53 kilometres and is nearly twice<br />

as long as the old channel. It was built to<br />

provide safe navigation with unrestricted<br />

air draft for vessels moving between<br />

Musaffah Port and the Arabian Gulf. The<br />

AED 1.5 billion (US$ 411 million) project<br />

was completed and handed over to Abu<br />

Dhabi Ports in February 2011.<br />

Shahama Port<br />

The 113,670 square metres Shahama<br />

Port is being developed into a prime<br />

commercial, leisure and tourism hub and<br />

will be the largest all-in-one destination<br />

for leisure and recreational boat users in<br />

Abu Dhabi. The port will feature a wide<br />

range of facilities, including dedicated<br />

slipways for boats and jet skis, wet and<br />

dry berthing facilities, fuelling and retail<br />

facilities, maintenance workshops, a<br />

marina clubhouse, shopping facilities,<br />

restaurants and coffee shops.<br />

The Western Region Ports<br />

The vast Western Region of the Emirate<br />

of Abu Dhabi is home to substantial<br />

hydrocarbon resources, major industrial,<br />

power and tourism projects, and various<br />

other economic development schemes.<br />

Abu Dhabi Ports develops and operates<br />

key logistics infrastructure along the<br />

region’s extensive coastline.<br />

Sila Port is the largest public marina in<br />

Abu Dhabi. It supports the local fishing<br />

industry, provides cargo services and<br />

offers recreational activities. Abu Dhabi<br />

Ports has enhanced the port facilities for<br />

fishermen and will further develop the<br />

port to support and enhance marine<br />

recreation.<br />

Marfa Port is being developed as a<br />

marina to accommodate a number of<br />

community, fishing and recreational<br />

activities and facilities. These facilities<br />

will include a fish market, a marine<br />

workshop, wet and dry berths, an ice<br />

factory and vehicle parking.<br />

Mugharraq Port is a key port in the<br />

Western Region, as it provides cargo<br />

services and supports ferry and logistics<br />

connections to Sir Bani Yas Island and<br />

Delma Island, both of which play important<br />

roles in the region’s development.<br />

The port also enables mainland maritime<br />

recreation and fishing.<br />

Delma Port is located on Delma Island<br />

and currently being developed to serve<br />

as a general multipurpose port that will<br />

handle cargo, passenger ferries and<br />

fishing vessels. Its ongoing expansion<br />

supports targeted development projects<br />

of the island.<br />
