The times we live in….
As I sat down to ponder over my latest
newsletter, all that I can think about is
Rugby. I had recently been lucky enough
to go and watch eventual runners up
Australia play against Fiji in their first
match of the tournament at the Millennium
Stadium in Cardiff. With a cup of
tea in hand, three thoughts came to my grumbles followed by a number of
attention. Firstly, I giggled to myself as I children saying “Mr School, cant we do
remember a dad and his son at the rugby instead”.
match with a sign saying, “Don’t tell his A sporting event always encapsulates a
mum he’s not at school”. Another of child's desire to perform and win, no
the worlds biggest sporting events in matter what the contest is. This country
recent years to be held in this country, seems to take competition to the next
arguably the best dad in the world, isn't level and not “inspire a generation” but
he? The second thought was about my inspire full stop. Every child has a sporty
own dad. He tried to bring me up to be side, it is after all global language, so why
a child with a wide spectrum of sports, not allow children to be engulfed by as
however, my younger self missed this much as possible, they have plenty of time
lesson and became a footballer through to specialise later. Advice, I wish I had
and through. This then brought me to followed myself at that age. Who knows
my final thought before putting pen to what they might fall for or what the next
paper, my year 5 class on Thursday Giant sport will be.
afternoon. After 6 weeks of hockey, during
our invasion game topic, we were
Dodgeball anyone?
due to cover football. This is normally
greeted by a rapturous cheer, but to my
amazement, a few mumbles and
Teacher Training
Prospectus
We are very happy to announce the
launch of our brand new Teacher
Training Prospectus.
You might not know, but alongside
our dedicated PE teachers and
coaches, we also have qualified and
experienced tutors who deliver various
training to primary schools
across the South East. This specialised
team are focused on improving
the level of PE delivery from teachers,
TA’s, PE co-ordinators, lunch
time supervisors and even young
sports leaders.
This new Prospectus holds everything
a Head teacher or PE coordinator
might need to increase the
impact of PE provision in their school
through inset days and twilight session
training, plus team teaching.
We strongly believe that this is the
definitive collection of training options
for all primary schools. We
are so confident that if you book a
Subject Leader training session for
your PE co-coordinator, we can assist
to ensure your PE department is
not only Ofsted ready but confident
in the planning, delivery and differentiation
of all PE topics.
Education, Education, Education
Due to new recommendations by the
Association of Physical Education
(afPE), Progressive Sports has invested
over £3000 for all full time coaches to
meet the new regulation by completing
their Level 3 PE and School Sport
qualification.
Back in 2013, afPE stated "Any adult
supporting teachers in a physical
education or school sport capacity
should be qualified to a Level 2 National
Governing Body (NGB) Award and working
towards a Level 3 Certificate in Supporting
the Delivery of Physical Education
and School Sport (L3CSDPESS) or
equivalent." (afPE, March 2013)
The expectation is that this requirement
will be complied with by 2015.
Therefore, over the summer holidays
our full time coach's gave up one days
holiday a week to attend over 50hours of
training. All coaches are currently undergoing
their observations with their tutor
Melanie Cuthbert, from Sports Structures,
and we envisage everyone will be qualified
by the end of the year. All the best to
them. Why now ask your coach about
their PESS?
“Did you know, in February five of
our Full Time coaches also became
qualified tutors when they completed
their Award in Delivering
Learning (QCF)”

I actually heard about Progressive Sports through working in a variety of schools since I was 17
years old, I began by volunteering and eventually worked full time in a special needs school for two
years with children who were diagnosed with severe Autistic Spectrum disorder.
It was through working in schools and especially with special needs children where I realised the
importance of activity based learning, exercising the mind through sport or exercise and social
play/PE.
This is what sparked my interest in becoming part of a company that provided this opportunity to
schools and children.
How important a role does sport play in your school?
We are taking sports seriously ,we are trying to achieve outstanding in PE and
for Ofsted so we get the support from the Progressive Sports team.
How do you plan to boost sport in your school following the recent announcement
about the sport premium money for schools?
The sports premium funding has enabled us to boost the quality of sports provision
both within the curriculum and beyond, give opportunities for more children
to participate in a variety of sports including those children who may not have
been as active in the past as they might have been, and provide for our staff excellent
CPD as they have worked alongside providers.
How has Progressive Sports helped to raise the profile of sport in your
school?
Great learning resource for staff as they seek to up-skill themselves in teaching
PE. With a good qualified coaches will help the children to achieve better .
