Welcome to the K&K Philharmoniker's 14th season! Experi<strong>en</strong>cing our <strong>en</strong>semble on tour is<br />
something special – up to 130 artists acting in concert, giving their best performance. As we're<br />
all only human, however, we perform slightly differ<strong>en</strong>tly every day. And sometimes, something<br />
truly special happ<strong>en</strong>s – the result is music which perhaps seems impossible to create on a conscious<br />
level. This captivates us all in that mom<strong>en</strong>t. Arguably, true art only arises from the spiritual<br />
exchange betwe<strong>en</strong> people who are prepared to <strong>en</strong>gage with one another without using words.<br />

DaCapo and the K&K Philharmoniker have campaigned for social<br />
causes from the beginning. Over the years, it has be<strong>en</strong> possible to<br />
donate over € 70,000 to various organisations. For example, donations<br />
have be<strong>en</strong> made to Karlheinz Böhm's "M<strong>en</strong>sch<strong>en</strong> für M<strong>en</strong>sch<strong>en</strong>" (People for People) aid for<br />
Africa foundation, and the ORF "Nachbar in Not" (Neighbours in Need) campaign for the<br />
flood disaster victims in South Asia in 2004.<br />
Since 2013 – thanks to your att<strong>en</strong>dance at our concerts – we have be<strong>en</strong> able to make<br />
an ev<strong>en</strong> greater commitm<strong>en</strong>t to childr<strong>en</strong> in Ukrainian orphanages. These institutions are in<br />
particular need of clothing, school supplies and foodstuffs. You make it possible for us to<br />
provide this support by att<strong>en</strong>ding our concerts.<br />

Das Österreichische K&K Ballett<br />
Founded by Matthias Georg K<strong>en</strong>dlinger in 2002 in the<br />
Ukranian cultural metropolis of Lviv (Lemberg), the symphony<br />
orchestra, the K&K Philharmoniker gives around 100 concerts<br />
each year – time and again in the Philharmonic and in<br />
Berlin Concert Hall, Helsinki Music C<strong>en</strong>tre and Gewandhaus<br />
Leipzig, in the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the concert halls<br />
of Cop<strong>en</strong>hag<strong>en</strong>, Stockholm, Madrid, Oslo and Paris, and at<br />
Vi<strong>en</strong>na's Musikverein.<br />
The K&K Opernchor was founded in 2003, and it has also<br />
performed as the Ukrainian National Choir Lviv since <strong>2015</strong>.<br />
Director Vasyl Yatsyniak learned the ropes from the famous<br />
Vladimir Minin in Moscow. He assumed responsibility for the<br />
performances of this vocal <strong>en</strong>semble from the beginning. The<br />
pres<strong>en</strong>tations of the Austrian K&K Ballet are created by Viktor<br />
Litvinov of the Ukrainian State Opera in Kiev, who builds<br />
on the work of the unforgettable Vi<strong>en</strong>nese choreographer<br />
Gerlinde Dill.<br />

In addition to the Strauss dynasty's well-known<br />
melodies, the programme traditionally also offers<br />
carefully selected rare pieces such as Märch<strong>en</strong> aus<br />
dem Ori<strong>en</strong>t [Fairy Tales from the Ori<strong>en</strong>t]. However,<br />
lively humour is also a hallmark of this concert<br />
series. Of course, you can once again look forward<br />
to the Danube Waltz and the <strong>en</strong>core of all <strong>en</strong>cores,<br />
the Radetzky March. This concert, which ranks<br />
among one of the most successful in classical music<br />
history with over one million spectators to date,<br />
has be<strong>en</strong> broadcast several times on Danish and<br />
German television (DR and ZDF).<br />

The most beautiful opera choruses provides an<br />
opportunity to sp<strong>en</strong>d an ev<strong>en</strong>ing <strong>en</strong>joying the<br />
most r<strong>en</strong>owned passages from the masterpieces<br />
of Verdi, Bizet, Wagner, Mozart or Bellini.<br />
The K&K Opernchor and K&K Philharmoniker have<br />
be<strong>en</strong> celebrating trem<strong>en</strong>dous success with this<br />
programme on Europe's stages since 2004 –<br />
oft<strong>en</strong> in front of a full house. Va, p<strong>en</strong>siero (Chorus<br />
of the Hebrew Slaves) – a clip from the tour<br />
CD/DVD – has already had 1.7 million hits on<br />
YouTube. German television (ZDF) has broadcast<br />
live recordings on many occasions.<br />

ABOUT THE CONCERT<br />
Curr<strong>en</strong>t and classic film score masterpieces are<br />
performed at The Hollywood Concert-Gala. Upon<br />
receiving his Lifetime Achievem<strong>en</strong>t Award,<br />
Stev<strong>en</strong> Spielberg quite rightly gave his particular<br />
thanks to his long-standing film score composer,<br />
John Williams. Without him, this ph<strong>en</strong>om<strong>en</strong>al<br />
career may perhaps never ev<strong>en</strong> have tak<strong>en</strong> off.<br />
Here, K<strong>en</strong>dlinger proves beyond all doubt that<br />
the music by Williams, Goldsmith, Herrmann,<br />
Horner and Co. is far more than an incid<strong>en</strong>tal<br />
supplem<strong>en</strong>t to films. Classical music has be<strong>en</strong><br />
and always will be borrowed for films. Ev<strong>en</strong> a<br />
number of film buffs will be surprised by the<br />
composers found in this programme.<br />
