A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR Dear WLP Members & Friends, Over 10 years ago, I was proud to be a part of a small, committed group of women and several corporations from the Tampa Bay region that gave life to a vision first advanced by university benefactor Carol Morsani and USF System President Judy Genshaft: to create the first philanthropic organization in our region that was focused on engaging and developing the intellectual and leadership potential for women. With this annual report, we hope to illustrate WLP’s 10 years of impact within the USF System and throughout our communities. What a difference a decade makes! ANILA JAIN, ‘81 USF WLP CHAIR The mission of the USF System Women in Leadership & Philanthropy program is to engage and educate visionary leaders and philanthropists to make a difference for women throughout the USF System and community. Building on the vision of our founding members, WLP is pleased to celebrate a decade of influence on women through our dedication to the promotion of leadership development, mentorship, philanthropy, community engagement, and scholarly excellence. In this 10th anniversary year, we celebrate the fact that we have raised well over $2 million to support these causes, and have deployed more than $500,000 to support students and female faculty in the USF System. These are admirable achievements, but our positive effect doesn’t end there. Over our past decade of existence, USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy has: • Strengthened the ties between women and the USF System, educating women about the power of personal and collective philanthropy. • Stimulated the participation of more than 5,000 women at programs across our region sponsored, either solely or in part, by WLP. • Increased attendance by women in USF System, USF Alumni, and USF Foundation programs and events. • Made significant progress in increasing the number of women making major gifts. • Increased the number of women serving on college/unit advisory boards and on the USF Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy is recognized as: • One of the most important touchpoints for women in beginning or continuing their relationship with the University. • A critical partner in helping many female donors discover their philanthropic passion at the University for major gifts. • An important player in growing and promoting women leaders on the campuses of the USF System and in our communities. We have only been able to achieve such impact through the power of the collective personal and philanthropic contributions of WLP members and corporate partners. This is what USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy is all about…women (and men!) elevating and celebrating women…sharing with, educating and supporting our female leaders of today and tomorrow, and helping to change the world for the better. THE POWER OF THE COLLECTIVE MISSION The mission of the USF System Women in Leadership & Philanthropy program is to engage and educate visionary leaders and philanthropists to make a difference for women throughout the USF System and the community. SOURCES OF WLP FUNDS The structure and function of the USF WLP program requires a consistent source of spendable income. Because the majority of individual gifts to WLP are made to restricted endowed funds, our primary sources of operating income include annual membership contributions, corporate memberships, sponsorships and ticket sales from the Annual Fall Symposium and other WLP events, and contributions from the USF Faculty & Staff Campaign. WLP also benefits from the investment of generous staff salary and budgetary support provided by the USF Foundation. MEMBERSHIP USF WLP’s groundwork was established over a decade ago by our founding members whose initial investments created a firm foundation for the fulfillment of WLP’s mission. By establishing individual endowed scholarship funds, contributing to the WLP endowed scholarship, and building the program endowment, our Founding, Lifetime, Individual and Corporate members provide WLP the strong basis for the tremendous growth and impact that distinguishes the program today.
