Policy & External Affairs
The policy and external affairs functions of
the Chamber have been as busy as ever and
we have maintained, if not increased our
involvement in many varied but essential
areas of engagement. We continue to
operate an active Transport Working Group,
Policy and External Affairs Committee that
sit below the Chamber’s Representative
Council. The Council now holds half of
its meeting’s in the morning and half in
the evening as well as now only receiving
presentations of high value and that are
particularly relevant to the meetings.
We continue to be involved in the
partnership arrangements in Barnsley and
Rotherham as well as regionally through
the Local Enterprise Partnership and the
Sheffield City Region Chambers Group.
We have representatives on both the
Barnsley and Rotherham strategic
partnerships right down to the more hands
on town centre focus groups. It is important
that the Chamber keeps up this level of
engagement to ensure we maintain our
position as the leading voice for business
in the area and the “go to” organisation for
business engagement.
Our priorities for 2016 will centre around maintaining our high-level engagement
with our partners, local politicians and joint working with the British Chamber of
Commerce, as well as prioritising several key areas that will be important for the
Chamber in 2016, including:
1. Ensuring the Chamber is strategically placed to play a role in the delivery of the
Sheffield City Region Growth Hub initiative which will gain momentum in 2016.
2. Develop stronger links with our local schools and promote the newly revived Young
Chamber initiative.
3. Successfully deliver the Business Fire Safety Project on behalf of the South
Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
4. Strengthen and develop further our international trade support and presence in
the region and to show our commitment to the growing national emphasis on
increasing exports
