National Honor Society Induction
Ceremony (cont. from pg. 7)
The guest speaker at the Induction Ceremony was
Michelle Spychalski Christine, a Holley alum from the
graduating class of 2000. She is a Secret Service Specialist
in Washington, D.C. When she graduated from high
school, she joined the Air Force with the goal of becoming
an air traffic controller. “I picked the military because I
didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew they would
tell me what to do,” Christine said. She remained in the
Air Force for four years, and then resumed civilian life
for two years. After 9/11, she was aware that the Secret
Service was looking for air traffic controllers to help them
work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
to increase their safety measures. Christine recalled this
as being a “step up moment” in her life, where she took
a chance, knowing she met the minimum requirements,
and decided to apply. She has been working for them for
the last 10 years. “I’ve traveled, met a lot of interesting
people and had the chance to attend historical events, like
the Queen of England’s birthday celebration,” she said.
“Don’t expect anything to be handed to you, take those
‘step up moments’ when
they’re presented to you
and work hard. Push
yourself; you learn more
from failure than success.
Stay humble, but set high
goals for yourself. Don’t
ever think you can’t
impact the world because
you’re just a kid from
Holley.”
