History of flooding The Soy Burn and Loch Soy are known sources of flood risk with a number of properties having been repeatedly flooded. For example, the Soy Burn caused flooding of properties in Soy Avenue, Portsoy in 2001, 2008, and 2009. Just outside of this Potentially Vulnerable Area, there are issues with coastal erosion and flooding around the mouth of the Burn of Durn. A graveyard is affected by erosion and in the past, a landslip near the mouth of the Burn of Durn caused a blockage in the burn, resulting in the flooding of a listed building. 37 Section 2 North East Local Plan District
Objectives to manage flooding in Potentially Vulnerable Area 06/02 Objectives provide a common goal and shared ambition for managing floods. These objectives have been set by SEPA and agreed with flood risk management authorities following consultation. They were identified through an assessment of the underlying evidence of the causes and impacts of flooding. Target areas have been set to focus actions; they do not necessarily correspond to areas at risk in SEPA’s flood map. The objectives below have been set for Portsoy Potentially Vulnerable Area.
