PRESIDENT<br />
Dr. Patrick T. Harker<br />
In July 2007, Patrick T. Harker,<br />
Ph.D., became <strong>the</strong> 26th president <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delaware</strong>. He was<br />
concurrently appointed a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />
business administration in <strong>the</strong> Alfred<br />
Lerner College <strong>of</strong> Business and<br />
Economics, and a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> civil<br />
and environmental engineering in <strong>the</strong><br />
College <strong>of</strong> Engineering.<br />
One year after assuming <strong>the</strong> presidency <strong>of</strong> UD, Harker unveiled<br />
a comprehensive strategic plan to ensure <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s place among<br />
<strong>the</strong> nation’s top universities. Key priorities in <strong>the</strong> plan include energy<br />
and environmental leadership; prolific and intensive research; and<br />
significant international engagement and collaboration. Under<br />
Harker’s leadership, UD acquired 272 acres <strong>of</strong> land that will be<br />
developed into a science and technology campus drawing on<br />
<strong>University</strong>- and partnership-based research.<br />
Harker came to UD from Penn’s Wharton School, where he had<br />
served as <strong>the</strong> dean and <strong>the</strong> Reliance Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Management and<br />
Private Enterprise since 2000. He held a secondary appointment in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Management and <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Electrical and<br />
Systems Engineering in Penn’s School <strong>of</strong> Engineering and Applied<br />
Science, and was a senior fellow at <strong>the</strong> Wharton Financial Institutions<br />
Center. Harker’s ascendance to dean was preceded by roles as interim<br />
and deputy dean, and chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Operations and Information<br />
Management Department.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> mid-‘90s, Harker served as chair <strong>of</strong> Penn’s Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Systems Engineering in <strong>the</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Engineering and Applied Science.<br />
Earlier that decade, he became <strong>the</strong> youngest faculty member in<br />
Wharton’s history to be awarded an endowed pr<strong>of</strong>essorship.<br />
Harker has published or edited nine books and more than 100<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional articles and, in 2004, he was named an ISI Highly Cited<br />
Researcher. He is most recently engaged in <strong>the</strong> analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
operations and economics <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> service sector.<br />
In 1981, Harker received his bachelor <strong>of</strong> science in engineering<br />
and master <strong>of</strong> science in engineering from <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Pennsylvania. In 1983, he earned a master’s degree in economics and<br />
a doctorate in civil and urban engineering, again from <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania.<br />
He is married to <strong>the</strong> former Emily Saaty, and <strong>the</strong>y have three<br />
children: Thomas, Michael and Meghan.<br />

Bernard M. Muir<br />
Bernard Muir begins his third<br />
year as <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delaware</strong><br />
Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong> and Recreation<br />
Services during <strong>the</strong> 2011-12 athletic<br />
season.<br />
Muir, a former collegiate<br />
athlete, began his duties at <strong>Delaware</strong><br />
on July 6, 2009. Muir had previously<br />
served as director <strong>of</strong> athletics at Georgetown <strong>University</strong> since 2005.<br />
In addition to his duties as director, Muir serves as <strong>the</strong> primary<br />
sports administrator for men's and women's basketball, football, and<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tball.<br />
Before joining <strong>the</strong> athletics administration at Georgetown, Muir<br />
served as deputy director <strong>of</strong> athletics/administration and facilities at<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Notre Dame from 2004-2005. He also served at<br />
Notre Dame as senior associate athletic director for student welfare<br />
and development from 2003-2004 and as associate athletic director<br />
for student welfare and development from 2000-2003.<br />
Muir, a native <strong>of</strong> Gainesville, Fla., worked for <strong>the</strong> National<br />
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from 1998-2000 as director <strong>of</strong><br />
operations for <strong>the</strong> Division I men’s national basketball championship<br />
and from 1992-1998 as assistant director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Division I men’s<br />
national basketball championship.<br />
He began his career in athletics administration as an athletic<br />
administrative assistant at Butler <strong>University</strong> in 1990, and<br />
subsequently held positions with Auburn <strong>University</strong> and Streetball<br />
Partners International <strong>of</strong> Dallas.<br />
In 2007 Muir was named to Street & Smith’s Sports Business<br />
Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40.”<br />
Muir earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior and<br />
management from Brown <strong>University</strong> in 1990 and a master’s in sports<br />
administration from Ohio <strong>University</strong> in 1992.<br />
In January, 2010, Muir was appointed by <strong>the</strong> NCAA to a<br />
prestigious post on <strong>the</strong> USA Basketball Board <strong>of</strong> Directors. He will<br />
serve on <strong>the</strong> board through 2012. He replaced former NCAA<br />
appointee Gene Smith, The Ohio State <strong>University</strong> Assistant Vice<br />
President and Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong>, who stepped down. Based in<br />
Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball is a nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization<br />
and <strong>the</strong> national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in<br />
<strong>the</strong> United States and is responsible for <strong>the</strong> selection, training and<br />
fielding <strong>of</strong> USA teams that compete in FIBA sponsored international<br />
basketball competitions, as well as for some national competitions.<br />
As an undergraduate at Brown <strong>University</strong> Muir was a four-year<br />
letter winner and co-captain <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> men’s basketball team his senior<br />
year.<br />
Muir and his wife, Liz, have two daughters, Libby and Millie. Liz<br />
is a former NCAA membership services representative.<br />

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR<br />
Samantha K. Huge<br />
Samantha K. Huge begins her<br />
third year as Senior Associate Director<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong> & Recreation Services at<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delaware</strong> in 2011-<br />
12.<br />
In her position, Huge serves as a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> senior management<br />
team and oversees <strong>the</strong> day-to-day<br />
business and administrative operations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Division, including fiscal<br />
management, external operations, student-athlete support services<br />
and NCAA compliance. She is responsible for <strong>the</strong> coordination <strong>of</strong><br />
strategic and operational planning and is <strong>the</strong> Division's liaison to<br />
various campus <strong>of</strong>fices including <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> General Counsel,<br />
Labor Relations, and Human Resources.<br />
Huge also serves as <strong>the</strong> primary sport administrator for<br />
women's lacrosse and volleyball and <strong>the</strong> secondary administrator for<br />
men's basketball.<br />
Huge graduated in 1992 from Gordon College, where she<br />
played varsity basketball for four years. She went on to earn her law<br />
degree from <strong>the</strong> Norman Adrian Wiggins School <strong>of</strong> Law at Campbell<br />
<strong>University</strong> in North Carolina in 1997.<br />
Prior to her appointment at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delaware</strong>, Huge<br />
was <strong>the</strong> Associate <strong>Athletics</strong> Director for Compliance at Georgetown<br />
<strong>University</strong> for three years where she directed all activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Athletics</strong> Compliance Office.<br />
In addition to her compliance duties, Huge was <strong>the</strong> primary sport<br />
administrator for several sports, oversaw <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Equipment &<br />
Transportation and served as <strong>the</strong> athletic department's liaison to <strong>the</strong><br />
academic side <strong>of</strong> campus and sat on several institutional committees.<br />
Huge is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NCAA Committee on Academic<br />
Performance and was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NCAA Amateurism<br />
Clearinghouse Advisory Group.<br />
Before arriving at Georgetown, Huge was <strong>the</strong> Assistant <strong>Athletics</strong><br />
Director for Compliance for four years at Wake Forest <strong>University</strong>.<br />
While at Wake Forest, Huge directed and coordinated <strong>the</strong> institution's<br />
athletics compliance efforts in addition to serving on various campus<br />
committees, including as chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Gender Equity Committee.<br />
Prior to her time at Wake Forest, Huge worked in <strong>the</strong> athletics<br />
compliance <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Conference, <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Illinois, and Michigan State <strong>University</strong>.<br />
