Nepal Earthquake-hit Await Warm Clothes Kathmandu Post Daily Nuwakot, December 20, 2015 Earthquake victims who have been living in temporary shelters in Nuwakot district of Nepal for more than past seven months are facing a hard time with the onset of winter. Temperatures have been continuously dipping. Victims are falling sick as bonechilling winds whip through their shaky structures in the night and thick fog obstructs the sunlight till late in the morning. Victim Sanu Kanchhi Tamang of Lachyang, who is living in a temporary camp for earthquake victims in Simutar, said they are facing lot of difficulties. “We are forced to spend sleepless nights, as it gets extremely cold after the sunset,” she said. Children and the elderly have been affected the most, with many of them falling sick. Dilman Tamang of Salme said around 150 children and senior citizens in the camp are suffering from common cold, asthma and pneumonia. Chhatra Bahadur Pradhan, General Secretary of National Senior Citizens Federation (NASIF) said" The elderly people are living under the open sky in remote areas. They don’t have proper shelters and are prone to winter related diseases as well as respiratory illnesses, including common cold, pneumonia and influenza. Pradhan urged the government to provide them with Rs. 10,000 that was allocated to quake affected families for warm clothes. Falling Mercury, Rising Tension Kantipur Daily/Nagarik Daily Bhaktapur/Sindhupalchowk, December 31, 2015 Elderly living under the tents after devastating earthquake of April are facing a lot of problems due to heart shivering cold. Purna Maya Gothe, 82, has been staying under a tent from past nine months after the earthquake destroyed her house. After undergoing through parching hot during summer and devouring rain in the monsoon, now she is suffering from severe cold of the winter. Bishnumaya Bhaila, 88, and Sanumaya Dhaula, 78, are also facing the same problem. Likewise news published in Nagarik Daily reports earthquake victims of Sindhupalchowk are facing a hard time with the onset of winter. Temperatures have continuously dipped in the past two weeks.
