Manaus - Gateway To The Amazon<br />

Planning tips for the Amazon:<br />

Climate: The Amazon Basin lies close to the equator and there is<br />

not a lot <strong>of</strong> difference between winter and summer. High humidity is<br />

common in the deep jungle but is more mild in the cities and on the<br />

river. The average temperature is 80°F. Nights are cool. Rainy season<br />

is Dec.-Jun. (high water) and dry season is Jul.-Nov. (low water). Travel<br />

in both seasons is good with different types <strong>of</strong> wildlife visible at each<br />

time.<br />

Luggage: We recommend durable luggage, especially if you're going<br />

to one <strong>of</strong> the jungle lodges as some <strong>of</strong> these can be remote. A duffel<br />

bag is most suitable but other options may be better based on your<br />

pre- and post-travel plans. We suggest packing light if possible.<br />

What to Bring: We highly recommend wearing subdued colors in<br />

the jungle as bright colors may scare wildlife. Bring long sleeves and<br />

long pants to protect yourself from the sun and insects. Bring a day<br />

pack, a wide brimmed hat, comfortable shoes or boots, a lightweight<br />

raincoat, insect repellent, a small flashlight, and a sense <strong>of</strong> adventure!<br />

Immunizations: Yellow Fever immunization may be required for travel<br />

to the Amazon region.<br />
