Driving a practical revolution
in engineering design capability

An evolution in engineering design
We are welcoming a new era. A future where simulation is at the heart
of product development. Enabling design optimisation, rapid innovation
and product differentiation, simulation is accelerating engineering design,
technological advances and exponential business growth.
Working to revolutionise simulation-based design
Technology acceleration
With a desire for zero prototyping, the benefits
are clear. An increase in the number of design
variants, fewer physical prototypes and a faster
time to market, but with it comes the need
for higher fidelity solutions if modelling and
simulation: right first time is to become real.
Underpinning simulation is High Performance
Computing (HPC). Providing the infrastructure
to extract value from complex data sets and
run power hungry applications, HPC enables
faster, more informed decision-making.
A strategic technology at the forefront of
innovation and competitive advantage.
With technology advancing at phenomenal
speed, its implementation and application
is ever more critical for advanced simulation,
determining performance and efficiency
gains. Developing new skills, pooling
collective thinking and aspiring to best
practice will continuously extend the
boundaries of simulation and state-of-the-art.
The convergence of big data, HPC and cloud
is driving an evolution in the engineering
design process, enabling collaboration, the
development of advanced methods and tools
and better product design.
With technology
advancing at a
phenomenal speed,
its implementation
and application is
ever more critical for
advanced simulation.

About CFMS
We are proud to be a growing, independent and not-for-profit organisation that
specialises in high value design capability. We promote advanced modelling and
simulation, underpinned by HPC, pushing the boundaries of technology.
Independent and neutral
Through our exceptional, collaborative,
virtual and physical facility, we enable the
adoption and acceleration of new technologies
for advanced modelling and simulation,
while improving learning and awareness
of state-of-the-art.
Born out of a collaboration between major
UK players in the aeronautical, defence,
automotive, academic and government sectors,
we are extremely proud of our industry
heritage. Sharing a common goal to achieve
significant advances in the design process,
a consortium of organisations was established
in 2007, and following positive results achieved,
The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS)
was formed in 2010.
Our collaborative links extend across
industry, academia and the research supply
chain. Engaging with organisations large and
small, we enable companies of all sizes to
experience the full benefit of modelling and
simulation, helping to provide access to the
right tools, resources, skills and technologies,
resulting in increased productivity and faster,
more informed decision-making.
Our vision is to drive
a practical revolution
in engineering design
capability, working
with organisations
to reduce risk in the
design phase, product
development costs
and time to market.

Facilitating collaboration
Aiding industry collaboration and dissemination of information,
in conjunction with advanced modelling and simulation and HPC,
is intrinsic to CFMS. Our collaborative approach underpins what
we do.
Agile and collaborative
As an independent, neutral organisation, we
bridge the gap between industry, academia
and the research supply chain. Facilitating
engagement and discussion, we support
the formulation of new and exciting tools,
disseminating progress on the industrialisation
of newly developed methods.
Providing access to industry and academic links,
we actively encourage the sharing of areas of
interest and the exchange of ideas. Through
centre membership and networking and events,
we enable the formation of informal networks,
through to strategic partnerships, influencing
thought leadership and the development of
innovative and collaborative practices.
Through our spacious and exceptional
facility, we offer access to an agile and
trusted environment that enables
organisations to freely share and collaborate
with their customers, supply chain and
partners. From individual to complex
multi-party collaborations, we host, process
and store complex information structures
to large data sets.
We bridge the
gap by integrating
communities,
enabling the adoption
and acceleration of
new tools, processes
and technologies.
