8 Gloss and Scratch Protection Overprint varnishes Sistiaga’s broad range of polyester-based overprint varnishes for cans and tubes provides the final layer of protection to your customer’s brand image. Varnishes not only play a fundamental role as sheen scratch protection, but also have a major influence over the final color achieved by ink systems. Whether applied wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry, our range of varnishes features excellent adherence to inks, a high degree of smoothness, gloss and visual versatility, and matte or pearlized effects. Sistiaga’s slip agent modified varnishes feature the best-in-class ink scuffing and scratching resistance available on the market. Our varnishes enhance production line flow by reducing friction for significant improvements in scuffing spoilage rates. A fine balance between hardness to avoid scratching, and flexibility to endure intense mechanical deformation, is achieved by our varnishes. This makes them the best choice for use in applications such as bottle-cans and aerosols. Color Matching Expertise Toners and pearlized basecoats The challenges associated with color matching can be minimized by using tinted basecoats that allow better ink contrast and maximize optical whiteness of the basecoat. Sistiaga provides a series of ready-to-mix toners to achieve the best graphic results over a wide spectrum of possible tint combinations. These toners, when applied separately or in combination at the coating line, will achieve the desired base tonality, opacity, gloss and/or color vibrancy. Using the Sistiaga complete color system, our toner technicians can match your color samples and provide you with the right tint/blend formula. Pearlized and aluminized basecoats, featuring excellent balance between gloss and fineness of the pigments, are also available. These basecoats, usually applied on brushed aerosol cans and other aluminized containers, feature sparkling or granular effects as well as good chemical and mechanical properties.
