Viktor Axelsen is one of Europe’s best chances to
shine and secure a medal at this year’s Olympic
Games. The 22-year-old Dane is a raw talent with an
outgoing personality.
By Raphaël Sachetat
Viktor Axelsen is a young man who likes
to do things differently. He is probably
the first ever athlete to invite foreign
reporters into his childhood house to
share souvenirs with them – he did so
during the Denmark Open last fall, when
media from Japan, Malaysia, and China
were welcomed with a private tour of
the house he grew up in. He was also the
first European badminton player to scoop
a Singles Gold Medal in a World Junior
Championships.
His differences were revealed way
back when he was one of the most
precocious players that Denmark has
ever produced.
